You don't need a lot of equipment - some barbells or a powerblock weights, a red and black band, stability ball (75cm), bar. You work at home, on your own schedule and measure results. His food recommendations are good, but I follow the DASH system for food intake which produces similar results. The workouts are not easy. You invest one hour per day, 5-6 days per week, eat right and you will get fit and loose weight. There is no free ride, or expensive equipment that will get to to loose weight without the effort. I'm looking to loose another 15 lbs and when I get there, will likely maintain the investment in maintaining my health.
If you don't have the discipline to do this on your own, join a program like Harvey Brooker. His team will coach you to good eating and exercise habits and product similar results, but you pay for the privilege of the coaching. This book is a lower cost option.
A fantastic book, it's just like having Tommy as your personal trainer, (minus the expense).
The results speak for themselves. Highly recommend this book.
Had to order book from Canada, as it was unavailable in the UK. Arrived within 10 days, quicker than most of the items I order from Amazon UK, and taking account of postage and exchange rate, it worked out relatively cheap.
And I like his book.
Did I loose that last 10 lbs? Nope, more like 5 but thats from doing the first 2.5 weeks only.
I recently picked it up again and restarted and plan to make all 30 days this time.
What's good - the routines are different every day, they are broken into small sets and the diagrams and instructions are pretty good.
As I am a distance runner, I've got some good cardio fitness and a killer quads but I do lack upper body and while my core is not bad it's not brilliant either. I found the workouts to be challenging but never so hard you feel you have to quit. Some moves were BRUTAL but the next one would be easier allowing for some recovery.
What's annoying - the binding makes it hard to leave the book open on the section you are working on. A ring binding might have been more practical.
What doesn't work - well it can be tricky to flip through the book and keep to the pace that you KNOW Tommy would be making you do if you were fortunate enough to have him around. For the cardio stuff I transcribed each day onto a post it and stuck it on my treadmill.
Overall I think this book might work best with a phone app add on - can you imagine getting Tommy barking in your ear every day? it might make the bootcamp style easier than just a printed book.
Is it worth it? I say yes, the work outs a great, the food plan is practical - this makes this book a good addition to your fitness library.
