About the Author
When weather stories make the news, Canadians know that an appearance by their favourite weather expert—the award-winning David Phillips— is usually moments away. David explains, "I've spent half my life trying to understand Canadians' love/hate relationship with the weather. Why are we so outwardly disgusted with the weather and yet so secretly proud of it, often at the same time?"
Originally hired as a researcher by Environment Canada, David soon became their "go-to" guy when the media asked for weather quotations. As a spokesperson from Environment Canada's weather service, he discusses weather and climate issues on a national scale, with the good humour and good science that Canadians have come to love and respect.
During his +40 years in the business, David has collected more than 35,000 weather factoids and stories. They form the basis for The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar, one of the best and most entertaining weather information sources available to Canadians. David is also the author of several best-selling books on weather. During the year, David gives hundreds of media interviews and dozens of speeches in his trademark entertaining style, combining weird and wonderful weather facts with accurate information about the science of weather.
David received the Order of Canada in 2001, as well as honorary doctorates from the University of Waterloo and the University of Nipissing. He lives in Barrie, ON, with his wife, Darlene. The Phillips have 2 grown daughters, Kelly and Jennifer, and 2 grandchildren, Tucker and Erin Hay. When he is not turning a weather eye to the sky, David spends his time writing, and teaching his grandchildren about the weather.
