Originally broadcasted on HBO in the early part of 2010, the concerts were recorded over 2 long nights at New York's Madison Square Garden. Night one featured the mostly "lighter" artists (Crosby Stills & Nash, Simon and Garfunkle, Stevie Wonder with Bruce Springsteen closing with a long 90 minute set. Night 2 had Aretha Franklin, Metallica, Jeff Beck [substituting for an under the weather Eric Clapton] and ending with U2. [The Rolling Stones and a regrouped Led Zeppelin declined.]

The broadcasted version [discs 1 & 2 plus one track not broadcasted] featured many guests including Stevie Wionder and BB King on The Thrill Is Gone, and Wonder with Sting on Higher Ground/Roxanne, Here Comes The Sun with Paul Simon, Crosby & Nash, Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools with Annie Lennox [and her controversal t-shirt], Metallica with Ozzy Osbourne & Ray Davies [separately], Jeff Beck with Sting abd Billy Gibbons [of ZZ Top] [separately], U2 with Mick Jagger and the Black Eyed Peas doing Gimme' Shelter and finally Springsteen's set with Billy Joel, John Fogarty, Tom Morello [of Rage Against The Machine] and others.

A booklet with a reporoduction of Rolling Stone magazine's cover is included with a decent size story.

Note: A coupon for a free year subscription to the Rolling Stone magazine is included but not valid in Canada.

The "bonus" DVD contains another hour of musicwith 2 songs extended [they were edited down to fit the HBO special] but in generally had nothing major to offer. Primarily it features an extra 4 tracks from Stevie Wonder.

A further 4 hours of material that were part of the two concerts still haven't been released.

I had borrowed this CD from my brother in law and after about a year I realized that I had to give it back to him so I ordered my own copy from Amazon. My whole family loves it. Some of the music takes me back to a time when life was simple.I have played it probably fifty times at least and never get tired of it. Thanks for all the great memories.

This was a gift to a friend, so I have not personally viewed it. However, the friend phoned the minute they'd seen it and she and her husband absolutely loved it. They're baby boomers who have grown up with the best of rock 'n roll and are still fans of the genre, so it was a thrill for them to see so many original artists and covers by some unusual combinations. I chose this particular DVD following the enthusiastic comments made by the brilliant Jimmy Fallon on his late night TV show.
