It works perfectly as a stabilizer should. There is lousy documentation with it though, so you have figure out a few things on your own, like... how to get it to fit back in the case it comes in...
One bad thing is the little USB connector that plugs into the gimbal, if you can find and remove a little rubber sticker over the plugin hole. This is supposed to allow you to charge the GoPro while it is in the gimbal and allow you to connect the camera to other devices (there is a tiny USB connector included with the gimbal that connects to the camera and to the gimbal. There is also a micro USB connector on the gimbal). Fail. I found that it just drained the gimbal battery, even when I had a large power pack plugged into the gimbal. The gimbal itself doesn't charge the batteries when you plug it into a USB port or charger, so apparently, you have to take the batteries out and use the separate gimbal battery charger and if you plug in the USB connector on the gimbal and connect it to the camera, it does charge the camera, but only while the gimbal is turned on. In a nutshell, yes, you can plug the USB connector in to the camera, through the gimbal and charge it, but you're draining your gimbal batteries by doing that. Pointless. Better to just take the GoPro out of the gimbal, which is super easy anyway. In actual fact, I can see no usFeiyu Tech FY-WG 3-Axis Wearable Gimbal for GoPro and similar Action Camse at all for the USB connector on the gimbal. It doesn't seem to allow you to pass the video from the camera to your computer and all it can do is charge the GoPro at the expense of draining the gimbal batteries, because the gimbal has to be on to do it. Huh? Ya, odd.
if they want to make this thing better, they need to make it so that the batteries charge while inside the gimbal and that would also allow me to use my big battry pack, plugged into the gimbal to charge both the gimbal and the GoPro, while using them both for long videos.
Still, aside from the seemingly failed attempt at including USB functionality, this thing is excellent as a gimbal. I walk while shooting video quite often and this gimbal makes the videos look very stable and professional. It's so good, that even their goofy USB setup doesn't detract from my score.
It may also work for other types of small cameras as well.
Regarding how well the WG gimbal performs... it's simply incredible. Shaky shots are a thing of the past. As most Youtube videos reviewing the gimbal illustrate, all bumps, jumps and blips are removed entirely from the footage. it's amazing how quickly the gimbal can react and steady the GoPro. First test I took my mountain bike through a few very rooty and bumpy sections of a trail around the corner from me. I deliberately tried to do everything I could to shake and disturb the gimbal... I failed. The gimbal worked beautifully! I even tried it as a selfie, vlogging setup - it's as if a camera crew is following you with professional steady cams.
Long story short, the WG 3-Axis gimbal does everything it claims and more. I highly recommend!!! You won't be disappointed as an addition to your GoPro arsenal!
Is it necessary on such wide angle cameras? - Hard to say $$$ to what it does in most applications.
Realize this is fairly heavy too. Also - two sets of batteries which was nice despite how long one set goes for in it. By the time you wear out one set in the gimbal you've worn out 3-4 sets in the action cam.
