*I received a free copy of the e-book through Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review.*
Genre: Action-adventure, cop drama
POV: alternates between 3rd person and 1st person (train of thought style)
Summary: Erica Brewer is an FBI agent with a bit of temper who has been banished to the mailroom to cool down when she comes across a very strange letter alluding to a high-level conspiracy. Once the letter correctly predicts an attack at the White House, Brewer begins investigating the man who wrote the letter. Turns out he was murdered, and his death is being investigated by a PD detective, Sam. Together, Sam and Erica try to find evidence of the conspiracy before they are silenced. Can they prevent the next attack? Can they take down the offenders?
Pluses: I found the story line to be very interesting, I am a bit of a sucker for Presidential conspiracy/dramas like Scandal and House of Cards. The pacing was excellent, I had trouble putting it down.
Minuses: Erica is most definitely a woman written by a man. In an attempt to make her less 'girlie' she just becomes every cliché of a 'strong' female cop out there: drinks wine from a mug, yells at basketball games, can't cook, is messy, bitchy, borderline alcoholic, speed demon, etc. Every man she meets (except Sam) ogles her. Why do we have to take time out of the story to read about this? Are all men gross? Why would she care enough to notice and include it in her inner monologue? This eventually dies down, but I found it quite annoying for the first third of the book.
*The version of epub that I read contained numerous typos, but I have been assured that the full release does not contain these errors.*
