I left them on the deck the first day. It was a rainy day but the lights did get charged and were lit all night. Today, it's been snowing since the morning. I went out and cleaned the solar cells a couple of times. The lights came on right at sunset.
I hope they last a while.
Note that the sunlight requirement is very strict, and you should definitely check how much direct sunlight you get in the winter months. I have a southwest-facing yard in which I placed the solar panel, and I only get two hours of direct sunlight in the afternoon in December (Calgary). This is only enough to recharge the battery for an hour or two once the sun goes down. Maybe a better rechargeable AA battery in the base unit would improve that. Alternatively you could go out and replace the battery every evening like some sort of barbarian, but that would defeat the purpose of automatic on/off solar-powered lights.

Had this for 1 year...2/3 of the lights not working anymore.
But it was beautiful when it did. In the country, nights are night, and these were like stars.
These worked great right out of the box and are still working well more than a year later. I even left them outside all winter in Alberta and they are still going strong. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Tessa Who
I don't like the blue light but it looks really cool in a gazebo -Published 4 months ago by Rebecca
long string like lights. great for going around a window or through the trees as i have it, to know where my place is when I'm four wheeling home at nightPublished 6 months ago by Michael Snelgrove
The lights are great, but the solar base isn't very sturdy. I have to keep unscrewing the housing to put the solar panel back in place.Published 7 months ago by Amazon Customer
