Mounting the CPU was a real pain in the butt as I have an AM4 socket and it uses the clipping mechanism. I found the instructions slightly unclear so it took me a while to get it mounted properly. This could also be due to the fact that my motherboard was already in my case, so maneuvering my hands was more difficult. If you have the option I would definitely recommend installing the cooler before installing the motherboard into the case. The cooler comes with paste preapplied which removes guess work in terms of amounts.
Star removed because of limited orientation of the cooler air flow only going top to bottom or vice versa. The Intel motherboards can be oriented anyway, but for AMD it is limited to top to bottom.
Others have clearly had success with this cooler, but I'm tempted to blame how small the surface area is that meets the CPU - it's very small. I ended up putting in a ZALMAN CNPS7X instead. Wow! Love it. Idle temp is 29 degrees, the compound hasn't cured yet, and when playing Guild Wars 2, the temp's not gone higher than 56 degrees. Incredible.

This is just barely adequate with a mild OC to 4.7Ghz
The cooler is no louder than my stock fan.. and perhaps a bit quieter. Installation on an AMD board was very easy, and the pre-applied stuff works just great. All 4 cores in my processor are between 3C of each other so the paste is doing it's job!The only reason for the 4 star is because of the size! It's not much wider than many coolers so I cant see there being too much of an issue fitting onto any specific motherboard. However, it may need to be turned a certain way to fit into some systems. I was forced to use mine as a rear exhaust, but that's how my airflow was going already so it was fine. For someone looking for top flow on an older AMD system / older case, you might have a tough time turning this! An average sized case will be fine for the hight of this cooler, but prepare to have the side of the case off if yours is narrow!
But if it fits, you'll likely be very satisfied!

1 - prima di tutto puoi montarlo in tutte e 4 le direzioni.Quindi il flusso d'aria bollente che soffia via, puoi dirigerlo dove più ti fa comodo! Infatti nel mio case c'é una ventola che soffia l'aria calda fuori ed é posta dietro, 2 ventole che aspirano aria fredda e sono poste davanti, una scheda video proprio al di sotto della cpu e come risultato l'ho montato esattamente in modo da soffiare l'aria calda verso le feritoie di uscita in alto.
2 - la pasta ad alta conduzione termica la trovi gia spalmata sul fondo, quindi stai attento a non toccarla.
3 - la ventola di dissipazione é posta NON centralmente come in altri dissipatori, ma lateralmente(come dovrebbe essere). In questo modo puoi soffiare tutta l'aria calda direttamente verso una direzione con una dispersione massima del calore.
4 - le dimensioni sono praticamente normali per un articolo di questo tipo, quindi é indicato per un case normal-type ATX standard tipo lo SHARKOON 7.1
la dissipazione termica del calore sprigionato dalla CPU, con questi dispositivi richiedere OBBLIGATORIAMENTE la pasta ad alta conduzione termica; e quando avvitate il dissipatore ricordatevi di PRESSARLO a dovere fino a FINE CORSA della vite.
Con questo non intendo dire che dovete FORZARE la corsa delle viti, ma semplicemente AVVITARE FINO ALLA FINE!

Perché il passaggio dell'aria calda dalla cpu verso l'esterno deve essere CONDIZIONATO da una minima(se non nulla) variazione di superficie tra la testa della CPU e la base di rame del DISSIPATORE. Ecco perché la pasta termica va spalmata proprio li, per aiutare il passaggio di calore e non perché va di moda.
evitate accuratamente di dirigere il getto d'aria bollente verso la scheda video o verso l'interno del pc!
As anticipated, the cooler was heavy but easy enough to fit. I have not measured its effectiveness scientifically, but the system has been rock solid, and the rig quieter and noticeably cooler in use - the expelled air being cool rather than warm. The son was happy and I remain happy as a result.
CPU - AMD Ryzen 1600X
I purchased this for my new PC build as not only was it at a very good price point, the reviews were positive and I have to say I wasn't dissappointed.
First of all it looks great and has a certain amount of 'heft' to it. I would recommend you read the installation leaflet and familiarise yourself with the fitting as the AM4 bracket can be a bit fiddly. I found that the cooler could only be fitted with the fan facing north or south and you need to check it will not get in the way of your RAM sticks - if you have low profile you should be ok, I was fitting 2X Corsair 16GB DDR4 Vengeance LPX with no issue.
When removing the cooler from the packaging please take care not to touch the bottom of the heatsink that sits on top of your CPU as it already has a coating of MX thermal paste, as I found out too late and had to buy some to cover it again. To fit the cooler you first have to remove the fan from the fins (you cannot effectively get to a screw on one side of the M4 bracket if you dont). Use a small flat blade screwdriver to assist you as there are small clips either side holding the fan in place. Once removed you can then fit the cooler, centre over your CPU and connect it to the M4 bracket loosely, once both sides are connected tighten the screws a little on each side each time so you can keep the screws straight and the cooler centred on your CPU - this fitting is fiddly but take your time and ensure you understand how the parts connect. I would recommend you only try to fit the cooler with your motherboard out of your case on a flat none conductive surface and be careful of any components/solder points on the bottom of your motherboard .
Once the cooler is in place, slide the fan back into position (I found this easier than taking it off ) and connect the wire to your fan header.
I have found the performance from this cooler to be excellent and extremely quiet, I also purchased and installed 2 x ARCTIC F12 PWM Rev.2 - Standard Low Noise PWM Controlled Case Fan from Amazon to compliment and my rig is running very quiet and very cool even at high loads thanks to the fans utilising PWM. I am not an overclocker but I have taken stock speed on my CPU from 3.6 Ghz to 4Ghz and the cooler has performed flawlessly and would highly recommend it.
I didn't even have to remove the GPU or RAM to install it myself. I've set the fan on turbo in the bios & I can't hear it.
Thermals are great! tomb raider on ultra, 44c cpu. My GPU is cooler as well I guess there is less residual heat in the system now & I didn't mention that I'm currently running a 12% overclock on my CPU to 4.72ghz and the crashes that I was getting at that level have eliminated so I'm going to keep pushing to see how far I can overclock and maybe get to 5ghz.
After some testing I found I could attain 4.89ghz with a vCore of 1.404 and stay within recommended thermal limits whilst gaming.
To attain 4.9-5ghz I would theorize that you would need a truly monster heatsink that is extreme ULTRA therefore if you plan on doing some major overclocking plus I would recommend that you look further afield for maybe 8 direct touch heatpipes & also consider additional fans, exhausts and even some sort of backplate attachment. The amount of heat that can come off your cpu is quite staggering with an extreme overclock. That or go water cooling - but of course, each approach has it's drawbacks or advantages.
I got my overclock stable by reconditioning an old thermalright itx 10 to put on the backplate. Having another 2 heatpipes brought the thermals down and it seems steady at 1.440 vcore max. at 100% of about 60c which is just off the red but in the amber. That's why I think you need monster extreme ultra plus to really push the bar on your overclock.
