In short, it's bad enough that they don't provide a standard electrical conduit connection where the wire exits the light, but they compounded the problem by skimping on the wire length. An extra two inches would have made a world of difference.
If these and the next 2 prove reliable I will change out 20 more fixtures with this style.
We could not believe the light output from these fixtures.
I lit up my back yard with the halogen and walked out to a stack of concrete blocks about 60 feet away. Dimly lit but well lit enough. I could probably mortar them up in this light. Switched off the halogen and on the LED. I didn't realize how yellow the halogen was until I switched on the LED. It's far whiter. In fact, for 4000k, I didn't quite expect this much white. I'm glad I didn't go for that 6500 K light this company sells although it'd probably be outstanding for growing aquatic plants. Getting back to looking at the concrete blocks, I'd have to say the light brightness is about the same but the blocks were certainly lighter in color. Looking back at both lights from 60 feet, other than one looking yellowish as oppose to the other, both seem to be equally blinding and because they're so bright, both look like a bright squarish source of light which tells me that the reflector around the LED matrix really has a function. Up close, the LED reflector doesn't seem very reflective since the LEDs light is essentially being projected outward anyway. What I'm trying to point out is, assuming both lights put out the same lumens, the halogen bulb may be just a little glass tube but the reflector behind it makes for a large 5" x 7" surface area reflecting the light, so you pretty see a not so intense light when you glance in the direction of the light. The LED light reflector is about the same size but the light really emanates only from the LED matrix being about 3" x 5", so all those lumens come directly from that smaller area. This just means that, using the LED as a work light in close quarters may produce a more blinding light when glancing towards the light but it certainly will show the paint color more accurately since it's whiter. Still pondering? How about covering the face of the LED with a piece of diffuser plastic used on fluorescence fixtures. The LED doesn't get hot enough to damage those.
My assessment is this: I think the LED's 1/10 power consumption, not burning hot, its 100 fold longer life expectancy (assuming the power supply lasts) is bar none thee winner here. Those delicate halogen tubes get super hot, draw as much power as a stove heating element, leaves little power left at the end of a long extension cord (a heavy gauge one at that) and encourages tripping breakers when running a power saw.
Yes, I wrote all this blabber just to say this bottom line...you will not be disappointed.
These make really great work lights. The LED matrix broad surface area is far less intense than a concentrated 1/2" surface putting out the same lumens. The short electrical pigtail I think is there for connecting into a junction box or light switch mounted next the light. Otherwise, if you use it as a work light, it's certainly easy enough to open up and replace the pigtail with a long power cord. If nothing else, use an inline switch to help couple the pigtail to a long power cord.
A few details:
-The light is a nice white light- not blue at all.
-lead wire is very short, even to wire into a junction box. I opened the portion containing the wiring and transformer, removed the supplied wiring and rewired with a longer 14/3 wire. Took 5 minutes and 4 screws to remove the cover.
-Unit is built well and sealed well from the weather.
-One of the few UL Listed LED lights I've found. This was a huge reason I bought this.
-No flickering as I've seen on cheaper lights.
-Well worth the price. I'll update this if I have any issues later.
