This is the first time I buy a laptop, and it's a great choice so far. After a month of use, I'm still sure of my choice. This computer is fast, never bugs and everything works well. I was aware of the short time battery and the weight of the laptop, so I can't complain about it.

HASH(0x9bcd1a2c) out of 5 stars So Far So Good Aug. 6 2011

The only review on this product at the time of my purchase was a negative one talking about system errors and I would like to express my sympathies to that buyer. I have owned several ASUS laptops in the past and have always, let me repeat it, always been satisfied. So far this laptop has exceeded my expectations. Not only does this laptop come with great components it also comes with the famous ASUS warranties. (If you purchase this product please read your Notebook Warranty Card and follow instructions to claim another free year of Accidental Damage Warranty by registering your product via mail in form & receipt.) I could go on for quite some time bragging about ASUS so I digress. If you are on the fence about this product because you're worried about reliability, please give ASUS a chance to make you a believer. Worst case scenario with a faulty product is a full refund thanks to LLC's amazing return policy.

Just an update, 6 months into owning this laptop and not a single problem has arose. I run this laptop for 5+ hours a day hard with classes, work, and multimedia projects. I will update as events unfold.

Another update for everyone. It is may 3rd 2012 and this laptop is still exceeding my expectations. I have put this machine through quite the workout since I have had it. I have done quite a bit of graphic intensive gaming, countless hours of Microsoft Word and Excel for courses, digital and graphic designing, and made the mistake of splashing water on my laptop while working with my 55 gallon aquarium. I even use this laptop at work where I do product and market research because it still outperforms the new Dell desktops we purchased in October of 2011. I put a HP laptop through a similar workout prior to purchasing this laptop and managed to burn it out in nine months. No signs of slowing down for this quality made ASUS machine. (Please note that I have a Targus cooling pad that I use while gaming in order to lower the heat damage done by gaming)

I hope I provided an unbiased and helpful review. Good luck shopping and as always, have a great day.

Well, throughout the delivery time I was afraid that I'm gonna have problems with getting the PC delivered on time or at all, specially after I read what people were writing in the reviews about SmartPost.
Luckily my PC got here and let me tell You, I could not be more satisfied with it.
I saw one negative review below mine, but I don't seem to have any problems with my Asus,as a mater of fact I'm very suprised how sleek and elegant it is - just beautiful :)
I love the hardware in it and how everything runs at amazing speed, older games and programs have get a new flair.
Edit: I just started playing Battlefield 3. To all those saying laptops aren't for gaming, I say - eat this..... this laptop plays most new games on High detail. Before mentioned Battlefield 3 runs great!!! I rarely get less than 30FPS in MP on combination of High/Medium with 30-60 ppl playing, 75% of the time FPS is high 30s to high 40s, when flying it goes to 50-60.
This is a great laptop and exceeds my biggest expectations when tackling games or few other CPU/GPU hungry programs opened at once. The GT540M is a mid-range GPU, but can really handle more than most people expect. Playing NFS:Shift or World, GTA4 on highest with GPU hungry mods gives 35-70 for NFSs, 30-40 for GTA4 and the GPU never gets hotter than 82*C which is great if You want overclock it. I suggest swapping the cheap Hynix 2GB RAM chip and getting the Kingston Valu-RAM 4GB 1333MHz chip instead though.
The only thing I don't like about it is that DVD does not record and I can't make Win7 images on DVDs - I have the same problem with my Toshiba laptop - also, it comes without a recovery DVD, so in case the OS requires re-install I'll have to shell out additional money, but considering I paid $698 for a PC worth $850 - $950, I guess I'm still on the track.
SOLVED: I just got a $40 Flash drive and don't have to worry about the system, so scratch that........

Great product, buy, buy, buy, before the price goes up!

I got this computer for college. All the specs are great except for the 5400 rpm hard drive, the case feels stable and well built (I did have some driver problems with the touchpad: when the computer turned on it took a minute or so before the multi-touch gestures would work)... I would have kept this computer, but the speakers were blown... I love to watch movies and listen to music, and this laptop came with speakers so bad they sound worse then my 2007 macbook- not acceptable. I am pretty sure mine was just a lemon, but I am getting a Dell xps 15 this time around...

I've not had any issues out of the box for a month now. I suppose anything could go horribly wrong yet but Asus has a good reputation so I'm not worried. I wanted something to do some work with home video and this thing flies. I'm not much into PC gaming, haven't bought a new game since Burnout Paradise, so I can't tell how it would perform with anything newer, but the "Windows Experience Index" score is a 5.8 so I imagine it'd be medium settings most of the time. You might consider upgrading the hard drive to a 7200 RPM, but so far I'm extremely satisfied with this machine right out of the box.

ASUS K53SV-A1 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Mocha) Great computer. It came with 6 GB of ram and I upgraded to 8 GB shortly after. I actually had the K52 first and something with the operating system went wrong that no one could figure out but Amazon immediately sent me out the K53 (just a different card reader)withing a few days. Extremely happy with the service from the Amazon on the issue.
