Product Description

Review

“Love, strength, and the bonds of family are the main themes of Eugenea’s moving story. This book takes an intimate look into how a broken family started putting the pieces back together, and shows how others can do the same.”

(Rolf Schrader, M.A., Psychotherapist Testimonial)

About the Author

Eugenea Couture is a mother of four and a native of Vancouver, B.C. Canada. At age four, she was forced into the foster care system in southern Alberta. As an adult, she moved back to the west coast where she settled down to raise her children and reunite with her biological family so they could mend their broken relationships. Terrified by the possibility of history repeating, Eugenea wanted to be a stay-at-home mother so she could focus on her children’s upbringing. It has been her life-long passion to help others find their families and to share her remarkable journey.

What a positive message of love, forgiveness, and the power of perseverance Eugenea presents to the world. She lives through her own childhood
knowing her parents are alive, yet she has been separated from them. Next she is separated from her siblings, one by one. She is shuffled from one unsuitable foster care home to another. If you've ever wondered how such a difficult path could affect a person, read Eugenea's story and admire how she overcomes every test, finds her lost parents and lost siblings, and ultimately finds herself. I am full of respect for Eugenea’s incredible journey. Read her story and let her distinct voice help you overcome the daily struggles you face with fresh effort and hope.

Inspiring doesn't do justice to what this book is all about. It's so much more! Eugenea depicts what it is like to lose your entire family, endure hardships, not only in the foster care system, but life in general, and live life determined to find herself and her family. This book puts into words what many can't speak of concerning their own struggles as a child and as adults that are products of the foster care system who suffered abuse, neglect and loss of family. The fact that Eugenea was successful in her quest to keep her own children safe as well as find her biological family gives one hope that if she can do it, maybe they can do it too. Inspiring, powerful, hopeful....an absolute must read! Thank you for sharing your story Eugenea, and being a voice for the voiceless.

Reading “Adoption Not an Option", really made me aware of how families are treated in “the foster care system”. This story is very moving, the author tells the story as if she is sitting at your table talking to you personally. The book is from her heart, it tells about the power of family, and what family means or should mean to all. Her search to find her family and reconnect with them and the terrible hardships she endured within the foster care child system, is something we need to know. The author’s goal in writing this book was to help other children who may be caught in the foster care system now, or adults that have been in the system.

A great read, couldn't put it down. A real eye opener of how youth view the social system and what can go wrong when we don't involve or take the time to assess at risk youth. If your involved in social work this is a must read. If your a caring mom or dad, a great read.

As a long time Foster Parent it was a wonderful book to read to help understand all that these children may go through coming into Foster Care. Thank goodness many things have changed since Eugenea went through the "system". Still need many more changes to happen
