As suggested in the title, I was expecting an adventure in this book. What I did not expect, was that I would soon become a fan of not just Adventureman himself, but also a fan of the many supporting characters in this true, very remarkable story. Jamie McDonald is a miracle, overcoming childhood illness through the love and support of family and healthcare practitioners. He chose to show his gratitude by pushing and testing his own body to the limit to raise money for the children’s hospital that helped him and for sick children in the UK and Canada. Jamie’s energy and positivity is contagious, and leaps off the page, in this story of how Canadians he met along his epic solo journey across the Country showed kindness as they marvelled about this regular guy who could give so much of himself in the pursuit of making life better for kids. There is no doubt that by the time you laugh and cry your way to the end of this book that you will want to be a Superhero too!
I'm so glad I found this book. As a storyteller Jamie manages to be both riotously entertaining and thoroughly inspiring. Any reader is likely to be left inspecting their motivations and wondering what the real goal in their life is. Read Jamie's story and discover for yourself how acting on a dream will make it a reality - expect to laugh and cry along the way. Brilliant!
This is a fabulous book about an ordinary British guy who runs across Canada to raise money for different children's hospitals. Absolutely amazing! So inspirational! Adventureman - you are anything but ordinary!
This is a MUST read! So much so that I've read it twice already. And, all the proceeds continue to go towards children's hospitals across Canada and the U.K. I followed Jamie via social media on this trek by foot across Canada, and to read his documentation of it is awe-inspiring!! I cannot begin to even imagine the hardship and pain he experienced as he ran every step across Canada, in all the possible weather conditions Canada can possibly offer up. Jamie is bundle of energy and positivity that is truly contagious. Do yourself a favour and read this book. Do yourself a bigger favour and meet this chap out there as he's doing talks and book signings across the country. Then, continue to follow and support Jamie as he begins his trek (by foot) around the U.S. in March, 2018.
Okay I don't even read books, sad I know but this story is close to my heart having had a brother who was seriously burned when he was 9 years old and spent over a year in Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto. We were told he was going to die. They saved his life! Jamie McDonald is a SuperHero helping save children's lives and making their quality of life better - after reading his story, I felt like I walked across Canada with him. He shares his experience in a way that really takes you on his journey for real. I am now officially exhausted LOL. The book made me laugh and cry page after page. I could not put it down! Thank you for all you do Jamie! Cheers to the SuperHero you truly are. You are helping children across our Great Country and making a difference and for that we are extremely grateful. Bless your soul you living SuperHero Angel
This non-fiction, true story, is an absolutely amazing account of one man’s journey to run across Canada to raise money for Sick Children’s Hospitals. This book is filled with so much love, emotion, conflict, inspiration and sheer determination. Jamie proves that we are all capable of dreaming big and acting on those dreams. In using our strengths, we can overcome our weaknesses, and make this world a better place. Jamie put one foot in front of the other and changed the world mile by mile. From the time I finished chapter one, I was hooked!!! Despite having read this book several months ago, I constantly find myself reflecting back on Jamie's run when I need to gain perspective in my own life. For that, I thank you Jamie McDonald for the amazing Adventureman you are. If you want to be inspired then this book is for you!!
Jamie made a visit to my school today in Arnold's Cove, Newfoundland, one of the many towns he passed through on his lengthy journey across Canada. He told us all openly about his struggles with illness and deformities that have pulled him down during his life and the multitude of problems, he faced in his long walk inspired by Canadian Hero, Terry Fox. His book is a very inspirational story about how he overcame his many hardships and how he conquered a long road of danger, deadly temperatures and injuries and lived to tell the tale.
