This film’s 25th Anniversary, marks the 175th Anniversary of Mark Twain’s birth, the 157th Anniversary of Mark Twain’s pinnacle work, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” and the 100th Anniversary of his death.
‘The Adventures of Mark Twain’ is an amazing journey of imagination, humour and heart, and a must for fans of Aardman Animations Studio. Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher, stow away with Mark Twain on an incredible journey through time, and built around a plot that features Twain's attempts to keep his "appointment" with Halley's Comet! The journey introduces the three friends to a variety of Mark Twain’s storybook characters from “The Famous Jumping Frog of Caliverous County,” “The Diary of Adam and Eve (Letters from the Earth),” “Huckleberry Finn,” “The Mysterious Stranger,” and “Captain Stormfield s Visit to Heaven.” The sequence based on “The Mysterious Stranger” reportedly received over ten million views upon being posted on YouTube. The sequence was allegedly banned from TV due to its 'disturbing content.'
This unique ‘The Adventures of Mark Twain’ film combines the visual richness and the magic of the “Claymation” process, with the sophisticated humour of Mark Twain and an experience to be cherished by all ages. ‘The Adventures of Mark Twain’ was the first full length feature film in the “Claymation” process and directed by Will Vinton, who is best known for “The California Raisins” animation.Read more ›
I didn't know a blu-ray had been released recently. I checked some time early last year and didn't find anything. Didn't even find any news about it. I had hoped it would make it to blu-ray eventually. To my very late suprise, it had already gotten a Collector's Edition release.
This blu-ray is definitely worth collecting. The picture quality is amazing for a dated production. It's stop-motion animation so the slight imperfections between snapshots will be very noticeable in HD. But that comes with the territory for stop-motion/claymation.
The sound is so very nice in either format. DTS-HD Master Audio in stereo or LPCM in stereo, they're the same.
The commentary and the special features are very entertaining and quite informative. If you love or have a high interest in this old-school style of film making, you'll love the special features. So much nostalgia when they talk about other productions (California Raisins).
The selected music tracks is quite fun, albeit very short.
So glad I decided to google if a blu-ray had been released as a DVD wouldn't cut it for me.
Just to have been able seen this Claymation adventure is a unique privilege. It is the first animation to ever officially use the term "Claymation" and the man who made this adventure actually owns the trademark to the term.
I must warn you ahead of time that this film is not really a children's film, and I don't suggest showing it to any kids under the age of 14, unless you view it first and think your child would benefit from the message contained in it.
It deals with a darker & mature subject matter that very few children would even understand. It goes deep into the more dark parts of Mark Twain's mind exploring why we are here, the presence of EVIL and of Satan. It shows us that Mark Twain was a depressed man, but a brilliant person.
The Claymation itself is Top Notch and done with such perfection and brilliance that it will leave you stunned at how it was achieved so well for the time in which it was made.
After the film, I was left just sitting in silence staring at a blank TV screen because I was so intrigued by what I had just seen I didn't want to move. I just wanted to sit there and think about what I had just seen. Very Powerful indeed!
That being said, this is one of those films that is a "MUST OWN" as it is a masterpiece of animation and film making.
