Learning to trust again is the hardest thing to do.

Ana Perrot is crazy. Crazy about sex, and pleasing her lovers. She is passionate and as fiery as her red hair. She eats men like air. She is also willing to submit to any man anywhere. But outside of the bedroom, Ana is an independent woman who lives her own life by her own rules. And, her biggest rule . . . she won’t do long term relationships. She refuses to fall in love . . . again.

Teddy O’Rourke is an easy going, laid back Tampa bartender at one of the most popular clubs in town. All about family and enjoying life including all the women that throw themselves at his feet, he has no problems finding willing partners. His football player body, his personality, his warm hazel eyes all ooze sex appeal. He is the perfect package in every way for a woman like Ana, well for any woman really. An ex-cop, his instincts tell him Ana is one hell of a woman, but she is wounded and scarred by the past. What are her secrets? What will make her trust him? Why is she so afraid to love?

A one night stand, that is full of surprises for Teddy, opens his eyes to new possibilities. A single man enjoying his freedom meets his match in the bedroom, and elsewhere. He sees a future with Ana, a counselor for troubled youth. But could she be persuaded to fall . . . and to trust again?

HASH(0xb4e19348) out of 5 stars AFRAID TO LOVE May 6 2014

Format: Kindle Edition
After reading Fire In His Eyes I was eager to read Ana’s story Afraid to Love. I was introduced to her in Fire In His Eyes and I was quite intrigued by her. She was intent on helping her sister to have a fulfilling love life, but she had no interest in having a committed relationship. She has no problems attracting men, but she was more interested in satisfying her sexual needs. Her actions stemmed from an experience she had had when she was in her twenties.
Ana was the type of woman who knew what she wanted and was not afraid to go after it. She is strong and independent, but was not afraid to be submissive when it came to sex. She like it when her lover takes control in the bedroom. It was easy to connect with her as underneath the tough exterior is a woman who has experienced a lot of pain.
One fateful night Teddy O’ Rourke walks into her life and things will never be the same for her. She started to experience things that she did not want to. Teddy wanted more from her than she was willing to give. He knew she was hiding something, but he had no intention of giving up on her. It was clear that he too had secrets that he was not so keen on divulging, I loved Teddy, he is quite charming, sweet and sensitive. He was not afraid to express his feelings.
Afraid to Love is a story that tugs on your emotions. It made me laugh and it also had me shedding some unexpected tears. It’s been a while since I have read a book that made me cry. I could not get enough of Ana and Teddy. This is a story that pulls you in and stays with you for days, even after it has been completed.
I enjoyed this book so much that I would recommend it to readers who love contemporary romance that is hot and sizzling.

I read the first book by MJ Nightingale and was hooked! I dove straight into this one excited to learn of Ana's story. We somewhat learned of Ana in Fire In His Eyes and are briefly introduced to Teddy in that book as well. Well now we get their full story. Ana is very different from her sister. She's very outspoken and into her sex life. She's not a relationship type of guy. But when she meets Teddy, he brings out these feelings from her. Their relationship is intense and hot. Their connection is strong and intense. Ana tries to keep things casual but the way their feelings develop doesn't allow for that. Soon she's diving into this relationship. But she has a secret that she keeps from Teddy, one that could ultimately shatter their relationship. When her secret is revealed will Teddy run? Or will he stay by her side?

MJ knows how to write some steamy scenes but she also knows how to write some very emotional scenes. She pulls you into this story and takes you on an emotion filled journey. I can't wait to read more from her.

HASH(0xb4c76480) out of 5 stars GREAT READ! May 2 2014

Format: Kindle Edition

Afraid To Love is a romance novel by M.J. Nightingale, while it is the second book in a series it can easily be read as a stand alone novel. Ana is a wild red head who prefers her relationships to be no strings attached, she doesn't do commitment and isn't risking her heart to love after being burned once before. She goes out to the bar and sets her sights on a sexy bartender named Teddy. Teddy is very willing to spend a night, or a few, with Ana, only once he has a taste of what she has to offer he doesn't want to let her go. Only Ana is keeping secrets that may push him away and she doesn't want to let him close enough to find out what she is hiding. Can she resist the connection and the passion they share? Is she too afraid to love to even give him a chance?

Once I started this novel there was no way I was going to put it down, from the start Afraid To Love is full of hot, passionate and slightly kinky sex. As the story develops more emotions begin to come out and then things get really good and completely suck you in. M.J. Nightingale created two truly incredible and real, down to earth, relate-able characters. Ana is harboring a particularly painful secret that prevents her from attempting a relationship mostly because she fears rejections if her partner learns the truth about her past. It is heartbreaking to know what she is going through but she puts on a good front, she aggressively pursues casual relationships and goes after exactly what she wants in the bedroom pretending to herself and others that she doesn't need anything else. The reader gets to see just how much love Ana actually has in her heart from her interactions with her family to her chosen career but she is closed off to the entire idea of romantic love. Teddy, to put it mildly, is the type of guy any woman in her right mind would fall madly in love with, he is gorgeous, sweet, considerate, patient and caring. Everything he did for Ana melted my heart just a little bit more but also broke it because of what Ana was going through. There were some very heavy emotions in this book and the author really took the reader on an emotional ride with these characters. I wanted so badly for everything to work out for the two of them because they were both so loveable! I won't lie though, there were certain points where I wanted to shake some sense into Ana but it really just added to her character, she was absolutely terrified of falling in love and I couldn't really blame her for anything she did. It may have been a bit of a secondary theme but the end of this book really made me think about family and love and by the end of the novel I had happy tears streaming down my face. There was one point near the end that had me openly sobbing and praying for the happily ever after. The plot line was pretty straight forward, no major twists but there were some emotional secrets that keep the reader captivated and needing to know what is going to happen to the characters. Before I read this one I didn't know that it was a series but I can honestly say I'm going to go back and read the first one immediately and continue to read any more that come out.
