I've been a big Royal Canadian Air Farce fan for years. While not old enough to have caught their radio broadcasts, the Air Farce TV show became a highlight of my week. Looking back now, it's unfortunate how much criticism Air Farce receives. While some of it may be warranted, most of it isn’t. Yes the humor was often very specific to current events and has now become somewhat outdated. And yes some of the characters were whacky, tacky or poorly written. It’s also easy to see that some of the humor and viewpoints expressed could turn certain viewers off. But to say the show sucked or was never funny? Please. When the classic cast of Luba Goy, Roger Abbott, Don Ferguson and John Morgan were featured, the show was filled with quality humor. Some of the best characters/impersonations done by the cast still stand out in my mind. I enjoyed their portrayals of politicians the most. Who can forget Abbott’s Chrétien or Ferguson’s Joe Clark or Preston Manning (Reffffffform)? Sure, I can admit that the show went downhill after Morgan retired and would become a shadow of its former self near the end. This doesn’t mean that the 2001+ period lacked solid well written sketches. They just became fewer and far between.

Going into this release I didn’t know what to expect. Would there be a larger focus on the classic period of the show? Would all the favourites be there? How about any decent bonus material? The run time is shorter than expected at just over an hour and a half. Several essential sketches are included. We get to see the birth of the Chicken Cannon, Jock McBile on the ever rising national debt, various take offs of Bob Dylan’s bank commercial and the Scottish, often incompatible, Macintoshes. Some of the newer cast members deliver strong performances.

Love Royal Canadian Air Farce - have been a fan for a very long time, and we saw a live taping once, which is a lot of fun. Can't find these anywhere in stores, which is not good.

I've been fans of the Royal Canadian Air Farce since the 1970s. Besides including the best bits from their TV shows, it includes some classic bits from their radio show.
