Not what I was expecting, but that is probably my fault for not reading the description closely. This is a book is a young adult book with very little detail. I have no idea why a teen or preteen would want to read about the Algerian War.

HASH(0xa1287420) out of 5 stars This is easily verifiable and should have been fact checked Sept. 1 2014

Format: Hardcover
I felt that this book offered a succinct and clear history of Algeria and then a more in-depth study of the brutal war for independence from France. I am reading this book for a country study that I am doing with my children (home school) and it appears adequate to the task.

However, I found an error in a sidebar that makes me question the fact checking and research in this book. I notified the publisher with the following: "There is a serious error in this volume. In the sidebar concerning Charles X (King of the French), it states that he was the fourth son and was not expected to become king. His older brother died at age 10 and the second oldest brother became Louis XVI, the next became Louis XVIII and finally he became Charles X. The sidebar states that one of his older brothers died by guillotine. THAT IS INCORRECT. Phillippe, duc D'Orleans (styling himself Phillippe Egalite during the Revolution) was a cousin via the cadet branch of the Bourbon dynasty. It was Phillippe's son who became King Louis-Phillippe after the July Revolution of 1830. This is easily verifiable and should have been fact checked."

I have enjoyed the book due to clear writing and very straightforward narration of events. However, I am no expert in Algerian history and the above-referenced error has me concerned about factual verity.
