Picked up this on the strength of a friend's recommendation for an intense and difficult DS game. This hits the spot for a long needed exploration heavy and scary game. The atmosphere is intense, and every step has you weighing if it's needed to continue the fight. Game is difficult at points - you play as a cast of marines that have perma-death. You lose a marine in battle, and that means you lose a continue. However, if you find and rescue new marines, you'd get a means to continue the fight with them!

You don't have to be familar with Prometheus, it just operates on Aliens logic. They are scary and tough - your default guns are not going to do much, even to the weak "warrior caste" Xenomorphs. You'd rely on your lifeform radar to see if there are any Xenomorphs ahead, and even sounds play a role. Enemies too can hear your gunfire and they will come after you! Luckily, you can find some upgrades for your guns, and that makes all the difference in the world.

The only mechanic that is slightly tedious is the behind cover shooting - hide behind a crate, and occasionally press Y to fire at a human enemy. You'd miss most of the time, and you'd find this "tactic" annoying. Also, enemies respawn in this game, which makes for a frustrating backtrack to a location you need...

Another great game by WayForward, makers of Contra 4 and that Batman wii game that was strangely pretty fun. It's Metroid with xenomorphs. Fairly scary and tense even with the 16-bit look. For the price, I recommend everyone buy this game. It's one of the only games I've purchases and not regretted on DS for the last 2 years!

I miss games like this since the snes days. Aliens Infestation is a Metroidvania type game and believe it or not it's a pretty tense game.

Things I liked:
Once your character dies, he's gone! You keep adding new squad mates to your team, so make sure you find more characters to play with in case you die.
Limited resources (health, ammo, grenades, etc)
Sound effects from the movies!
Slow paced tension building approach to horror
Weapon upgrades
Dropping flares (like Ripley does in Aliens) for when you may have to backtrack to an area.
Pulse radar! :D (makes game creepy)

Things I didn't like:
Fighting humans while behind cover can be a bit tedious.

WayForward packs a lot into such a tiny, unappreciated gem. A great throwback to Metroid (which itself was inspired by Scott/Cameron's Alien films, so the circle is now complete) with excellent sprite art, tight controls and satisfying if occasionally uninspired and cheap game design.

A good buy if you're collecting NDS hidden gems and need something fun and well made.

Fun game for any Aliens fan. =)
The graphics and the sound are great for the ds.
I wish it was a bit longer, but that's just a small complaint.
