Product Description

Product Description

Do bad things really happen to us for a good reason?  Escape into the ALL THINGS IRISH shop in Door County, Wisconsin and laugh exploring why--as you indulge in outrageous Irishness, friendships as thick as Aran sweaters, and a quirky Wisconsin fishing village of diehard Scandinavians that wants to run the shop out of town.
Meg McKenna spent the last decade avoiding her crazy mother's shamrock-shaped world of Celtic witchery and bad Irish luck that brought nothing but heartbreak. But when locals threaten to put her mother's newly opened Irish shop out of business, the prodigal daughter returns, attracting unexpected surprises, laughter, friendship, romance, and more bad Irish luck--which her mother swears is a good thing.

About the Author

Michael Loynd is the author of ALL THINGS IRISH, and the upcoming: GOSSIPING WITH A WITCH (the inspired true story of Alice Roosevelt Longworth). Married to his high school sweetheart, they live in St. Louis with their four children.

I liked the fact that the family always came together. Especially in trying times. I disliked the store owner, because unfortunately there are people like that out there. My mother in law was that way. If you weren't Dutch, you weren't worth her time. Luckily my husband isn't like that. I enjoyed (?) the part of the sister with cancer and how she handled it. Because I just had surgery for breast cancer 2 weeks ago, and hope that i can handle things as well. I will be recommended this book to my friends. N But i really loved the Irish sayings, the stories and the way it was written as the mother spoke with the accent.

HASH(0x9add6a14) out of 5 stars Fresh, funny and poignant Jan. 28 2012
By Paul Guyot - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I loved this book. The author is a fresh new voice, and this story is like an Irish version of Fannie Flagg's hilarious Southern novels. The characters are all fully drawn and authentic, and the story floats effortlessly from kooky insanity to heart-warming poignancy. The writer Loynd also a deft touch with setting. The Wisconsin landscape and culture is described so vividly I feel like I've spent weeks in Door County.

This is the perfect light read that will still grab your heartstrings. I highly recommend this book, and hope to see more from this writer.

HASH(0x9add6c60) out of 5 stars Great read Feb. 25 2012

This tale of life, love, loss and redemption, sprinkled with Irish wit, is like Maeve Binchey meets Andrew Greeley. The author weaves such a satisfying story that I could swear I've met these characters somewhere. Linda

HASH(0x9add6ea0) out of 5 stars Great Book for Plane Rides March 13 2012
By WMB62 - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I travel a lot for my job and enjoy having a story like this to get into while I'm stuck on planes. It's an easy read with great character development (sorry Jellyfish, couldn't disagree with you more...if you didn't know Mo, Meg, Caitlyn, and Robbie by the end of the story you weren't listening). Mr Loynd captured the culture and texture of Door County. I spent a long summer up there several years ago and enjoyed reminiscing about the people and the places.

Grab the book and throw it in your'll thank me when the guy next to you on the plane wants to chat you up about selling shower rings...

HASH(0x9add7060) out of 5 stars Just bad writing Jan. 12 2013

Very disappointing for a lover of all things Irish. The characters and situations were so pat and uninteresting. I did read it all thinking it had to get better. It didn't.

HASH(0x9add6f18) out of 5 stars Great read - Norwegian & Irish Culture meet Head On Aug. 2 2012
By S.Markel - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
What a surprise gem! So few books make me laugh out loud many times and bring me to tears in other parts. Michael Loynd must have listened carefully to his wife's stories of that Irish Shop. He has caught the voice of some of the vibrant pieces of American Irish culture and juxtaposed this with the Norwegian backdrop in Door County. He made comedy magic of the Lutefish experience. Embedded within the Irish fatalistic outlook and humor is a poignant story about diversity, families, love and romance. I had things to do today but I couldn't put this Kindle edition down until the last page and I still wanted the story to go on. This is a heart warming story. Thank you!
