Product Description

When it comes to business, Aaron Chase knows how to succeed. But when his daughter, Izzie, asks him for the perfect family Christmas, the handsome widower feels at a loss about how to make his little girl’s dream come true.

Pediatric Nurse Christy Cooper has dedicated her life to taking care of children. She agrees to act as Izzie’s stand-in mom for this special holiday and throws herself into making the child’s Christmas wish a reality. Maybe this selfless act will somehow alleviate her secret regrets and failures of the past.

The holiday is filled with fun and laughter, and it’s amazing how three short days can be so life-changing. When the impish eight-year-old talks the adults into acting out a silly, make-believe wedding, young Izzie is certain the magic of the season will turn the pretend vows into the real thing. The little girl wants her daddy to have Christmas in his life—every single day.

A nice, engaging Christmas tale. To be read on a rainy weekend with nothing major to do. Not high literature, but worth the read.

HASH(0x9db4a468) out of 5 stars Wonderful. Simply...wonderful! Sept. 30 2014
By Em & M Books - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
5 Stars doesn't even begin to capture just how much I loved this book. Donna Fasano’s writing is flawless, her story is emotionally charged, her characters are multi-dimensional and real, and this book is just….perfect! This book is novella length, but the story is paced perfectly and fills just the right amount of pages.

It’s not often that a book can move me to tears, but what struck me as rare was the author’s ability to not just evoke one emotion at a time within me, but her ability to have me feeling multiple emotions at once – smiling like a fool while I was crying, having my heart ache while feeling such hope, or feeling dread at what I knew was coming while being optimistic at what the future would hold.

Thank you Donna Fasano – this book is by far my most favorite read of the year and a true reminder of what is important in life and the fact that even though we may experience sadness, there is so much to be truly thankful for if we just open our hearts and minds to what is around us and live in the moment.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

If I could give this book written by Donna Fasano 10 Stars I would! Your heart is immediately captured by Izzie, an 8 year old impish, charming and smart little girl. Izzie, suffering from Leukemia has a Christmas wish, she lost her Mom 2 years ago and she wants a "family" Christmas!! Dad Aaron goes to the hospital staff and asks for a volunteer to come with them for a 3 day Christmas "family" trip. Pediatric Oncology Nurse Christy and Aaron plan one of the most beautiful and heart warming holidays with a little "help" from Izzie!! Read this book and see what Izzie has planned! Bring your tissues with you! In fact this book should come with them! Need a heart warming, heart tugging and Christmas spirit feeling book? Then this should be at the top of your list!! A keeper and must read every year for me!!

HASH(0x9db4acb4) out of 5 stars Can the magic of Christmas turn a make-believe wedding into the real thing? Sept. 27 2014
By Mrs. S. J. Parkes - Published on
Format: Paperback
I give this book 5 stars.

I started reading this book by Donna Fasano and it touched my heart because I can connect with the characters in this story.

The story is about a father, daughter, a wish list and a caring nurse. Izzie is very ill with cancer, she is an avid list maker and she has asked her father for a family Christmas with a make believe mommy as she lost her mum 2 years ago, and this is where the story starts with Aaron (the father) asking the staff at the hospital if anyone can help him give his daughter (Izzie), the family Christmas she wants. Christy (the nurse) steps forward and offers her assistance, to help Aaron help Izzie to tick off everything on her list.

I have to congratulate Donna Fasano on the compassionate way she has written this sad and beautiful love story, I read it in one sitting because I was drawn into this book. Emotion and love comes alive in these pages.

HASH(0x9db4ad98) out of 5 stars Donna Fasano manages to mix all the elements together, and bring the best reminders of the hope we should have at Christmas Oct. 3 2014

I already know going in that a book from Donna Fasano will tug at my heartstrings, characters will come alive in the pages and there is always some truly lovely romance happening. What I have learned from her Single Dads Club (and other books) is that her families are just as real, with issues and struggles that are familiar to many. So, going in, I knew I was predisposed to like this book, I just didn’t realize how much emotion and power she would pack into this reasonably short (at just 158 pages) novel.
There are many elements in play with this story, and not all of them are happy. Aaron has been both father and mother to his daughter Izzy for the past few years after her mother died. While that would be enough to tug at your heart: his determination to give her everything that a child with 2 parents would have, and trying to see she is well-adjusted and happy, Izzy is battling leukemia and does not have a particularly positive prognosis.
Izzy is just amazing, at eight years old she has had more piled into her life than most adults, and while she has those moments of worry and fear, her outlook and her attitude are incredibly positive. Smart and clever, with a nice side of ‘beyond her years’ Izzy has one big worry – what will happen to her father after she is gone. She wants to see him happy, with someone to take care of him, and she thinks that she can move this along with her wish – a ‘family’ Christmas with a ‘pretend’ Mommy and family to share in the day. Aaron is so delightfully determined that he speaks with the staff in the pediatric oncology unit to see if there are volunteers who will step up to give Izzy her wish.

Christy is a nurse in the pediatric oncology ward – and we already know in our own hearts that it takes a special sort of person to do that job and do it well. While her own desire is to help others and make the children and families as comfortable as possible as they get the care they need, she decides that helping Izzy to check off one more thing on her list (yes, she does have a list of things she wants) is no hardship so she volunteers.

And that, as they say, is just the beginning. Christy and Aaron are ‘pretending’ at first, but they both soon find comfort and attraction in their pairing for the wish for Izzy. For her part, Izzy is a bit of a schemer, pushing them together with subtle and not so subtle manipulations: she really LIKES Christy, and she thinks her father does too. With tears, giggles, smiles and some outright cheering on the characters, we think we know what will happen, we even fear some of it, but Donna Fasano manages to keep the reader engaged as we run through a gamut of emotions, all leading to the end. Not every story always needs to be happy and easy, and sometimes the best reminders of the hope we should have at Christmas (and every day) are found in the challenges and twists that life throws at us. No one manages to mix all the elements together quite as well, and bring us a story to read and read again.

I purchased a copy of the title for my own library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
