Amazing Matilda is a sweet little story about a caterpillar impatient to fly. Matilda chats with lots of animal friends along her journey, and they encourage her to follow her dreams and never give up. The colourful hand-drawn illustrations show the life-cycle of Matilda the monarch butterfly and the friends she makes along the way. My only criticism was, I would have liked to see them full size - they were quite small on my Kindle reader. This is a delightful story for young children and an ideal length to read as a bedtime story.

I wanted to review this great book long ago, but somehow I just could not dare to do that in a hurry, as time was never enough. Anyway, now I would like to briefly share my thoughts on Amazing Matilda with you all.
You might think it is just another Children's book, but let me tell you that it is much more than that. I mean, as a researcher in the field of social sciences some 10 years ago, I desperately needed to define the process of economic and societal transformation for a degree at a nice UK university. To be honest, the first thing that came to mind then was...a butterfly! However, most of my fellow researchers at the time were quite sceptical about such a metaphor being taken seriously!
Well, now I know for sure that this amazing author, Bette, this great lady, knows the secrets of life in general, including human, wild and natural ones.
The story is really exciting, appealing, adventurous, lovable, and yet, sufficiently wise and deep for both kids and adults.
In case you do not trust my word, I urge you to find out for yourselves. Otherwise, I might be reviewing this wonderful book for hours. It is my pleasure indeed!

A charming read with good illustrations to help children learn about how a little caterpillar can turn into a beautiful butterfly.
Matilda is encouraged by a bird, a frog, a Dragonfly and a rabbit, so sharpen your funny voices for each character.

HASH(0xa180818c) out of 5 stars Amazing! Aug. 29 2012

Amazing Matilda is just that. Amazing! Matilda starts of as a tiny little egg on a leaf and slowly turns from Caterpillar to butterfly. The tiny little caterpillar always wanted to fly and is asking all the woodland creatures in the forest how she can fly. All of her friends tell her she must have patience and follow her instincts, but that's great what about her wings???? This book will teach kids about following their dreams and how to be patient and that they can do anything they want. The book has wonderful illustrations in it too that the author did her self.

HASH(0xa1808258) out of 5 stars Creative and Beautiful Story July 9 2012

"Amazing Matilda - A Monarch's Tale" is a brilliant book by author Bette A. Stevens. While this is the first book that I have read from this author, I sincerely hope it won't be my last. I began the read wondering where it would take me and found my thoughts moving faster and faster as I was eagerly waiting to see what would happen next. I can say without hesitation that it was a well written book that was filled with excitement and adventure.

I enjoyed how Matilda, a tiny caterpillar, begins her journey from the size of an egg and eagerly wonders when she would be able to fly. While she verbalized this, the Sparrow requested that she have patience and follow her instincts and one day she would be able to fly. Soon she met a Toad who shared about how he learned to leap and move about, but Matilda didn't want to leap she wanted to fly. In the story we see Matilda changing colors many times, each one reflecting who she is currently while becoming something totally different as well. She then meets a Rabbit who shared how they learned to hop, but Matilda didn't want to hop she wanted to fly. She continued to eat day after day and soon realized how tired she was and that she needed a nap. Soon Matilda seemed to be covered by a soft green blanket surrounding her and she continued to change inside. When she awoke from her nap the other friends noticed something different. Matilda now had wings, wings that she had longed for to help her fly. At first she didn't succeed but her friends kept encouraging her to try, to spread her wings, to flap them until she could take off. With enough effort and courage soon Matilda began to lift herself from the earth and soar high above the others. They cheered her on and she waved goodbye to them as she soared away.

I believe most any child would enjoy this book as well as adults. I enjoyed how the author shared support and encouragement from the other animals. How they prepared Matilda to believe in herself, to have patience and rely on her instincts. We must believe in ourselves and others as well. When we begin to do that, we will be able to soar as Matilda above the circumstances that we encounter as well as help others to do the same.
I would highly recommend this book to others who desire a challenge to become a better person.

HASH(0xa1808a50) out of 5 stars It was AMAZING Dec 3 2012

There are times that I forget that I'm actually a twenty-four year old. That's when I'm goofing off with my fiance, fighting with my sisters, or reading a children's book. Not many children's books bring me back and make me forget how old I am, but Amazing Matilda: A Monarch's Tale did just that.

The book was so simple, so easy to follow, and, up until midway through the book I didn't realize what Matilda really was. It's not that I don't know what a caterpillar is or what it turns in to, but I became so engrossed in the story that I forgot that I knew what would happen. What would always happen to a caterpillar.

The book is a great book for motivating children and teaching them that if you just sit down and wait a bit, you sometimes get what you wish for. Granted, that's not all that we should be teaching the children but this is a great story for a lesson in patience.

I also love the illustrations that are present in the story. They are so simple but they help the story move along in a great way. The illustrations look like they were done using the pencils that, when wet, look like water colors. The affect was amazing. Great job all around.
