I wanted to send this to newlyweds in the US and of course I wanted the gift card denominated in US dollars. I live in Canada and while I could order this gift card from here, it could only be purchased in Canadian dollar denominations. I solved this by using the US Amazon website which already had my account info (to my surprise). It all worked out to everyone’s satisfaction in the end.

If you received that promotion email from Amazon, be very careful. My purchase experience with that promotion felt like a "bait & switch" by Amazon website. I clicked on the promotion email link and tried to buy a $50 gift card. I entered the phone number for texting the gift card and as I clicked "Buy Now" button, Amazon website reloaded the gift-card purchase page & prompted me to enter an email address because the delivery option was changed (by Amazon) to "Deliver by Email".

I was confused and tried it to start over two more times. Both times, after I entered a phone number where the gift card would be delivered to, and clicked on "Buy Now" button, Amazon website would reload the page and change to "Deliver by Email". Somewhat out of patience, I just proceeded to enter an email and completed the whole purchase.

After reading the fine print of this promotion, I realized that $10 credit is given only when the $50 gift card is delivered by text to a phone number.

To me, the whole experience is a "bait & switch". I wanted to buy $50 gift card and I followed the email link & entered a phone number. As I wanted to pay for the purchase, Amazon website changed the delivery option to "Deliver by Email" to mislead me into entering an email address to deliver the gift card. In turn, that would disqualify me for the $10 credit.

My sister doesn't have a credit card so she was unable to order anything from Amazon. So, I sent her a gift card and now she can use their site. It took 10 minutes until she had the money in her account. She's Really Happy.....and I'm glad she is. Hope she buys me something nice..hahahaha

With costs of international as well as national shipping these days we find Amazon gift cards are worthwhile as the recipient can grab anything they like, and it only takes seconds to give. We end up giving more $ value for each Amazon gift card because we don't have to pay $$$ big money for shipping cost.

TIP ► We also started to give Amazon gift cards to our child's teachers. The typical teacher coffee mug gift or box of chocolate gift will always get a kind note in reply however with the Amazon gift cards we always get very grateful appreciation.

We know a few teachers and while there will always be that kind note for the boxes of chocolate and coffee mugs, secret regifting of these items is huge !!!

10 lbs of random chocolate and 8 coffee mugs are a bit much for anyone we're always told.

The options for sending and the appearance choices have improved markedly. I've been giving these some of the time for years.

However, the current rendition needs tuning. I chose email send. It said it wouldn't bill until it sent. Then it billed the day before and sent me a weird notification that it had sent 0 gifts. On the day, it sent but gave no notification. I had to log in to check. minor issue but it's not seemless.

I laugh when customer service ask if I want my refund as a gift card.

Around Christmas time, there are a lot of screw ups with deliveries and they always ask me if I want the refund applied to my original method of payment or as a gift card. I laugh and say "No thank you, I want my real money back". I guess it's like McD's employees asking "Do you want fries with that". Anyway, I don't like gift cards. It just tells the person that you didn't care enough to actually think about what you wanted to gift them and they are limited to one place to spend it. Why not give them a prepaid VISA where they can spend it almost anywhere?
