First of all, I am Canadian, but I am a closet American. Personally, in my opinion, I thought the story was well directed. There were no parts that seemed to hang. This is a portrayal of Mr. Kyle's part in the war. I don't know if he got one or not, but he was a hero that deserved the purple heart I recently D/L the book version. I hope it is as good as the movie. Prepare to cry in some parts!

A sad to upsetting tale well told. I goes far to requiring humanity to redefine what it means in terms of the human costs we are asking from warrior heroes. A price too great for its benefits, unless you choose to see fighters as being primarily cannon fodder.

I was not expecting to watch such a good movie when I put the disc in the blue ray player! The emphasis of the movie is not put so much on the heroisism of the "sniper" but on his difficulty to "return to reality" (i.e. home) after his tour(s) in Irak. This gives a rich dimension to the personal life of the main character and especially his interaction with his wife. A must see movie!

A sniper is nothing but a coward with a powerful weapon hidden out of harms range and kills
because he/she likes killing.
Showing him as a kind human being - because he pretends to refrain from killing a seven years old child
does not make him anything but still a cold blooded killer. there are thousands of them in every day life
that if they can not kill legally as a soldier!!! will choose a stadium or a college to get their highs -
get their hard-on by killing innocent people. they are total psychotic misfits in any society most likely
disowned by their mothers and sexually abused by their fathers.
They do not, I repeat they do NOT represent the soldiers or the marines that sacrifice their lives in the fields
for the cause what ever that may be.
trying to glorify them with movies like this is nothing but hollywood's greed to cash in on a horrible profession - if you can call it a profession
Can you call cold blooded killing a "profession".
Zero stars would have been more appropriate.

Three intertwined plots which makes the film a bit disjointed. I understand why it would be produced that way, but it was not as seamless as I would like. That being said, the acting was great- the story is very compelling, real and hard hitting as well as heart wrenching. It shows the brutality of war. Even though it is based on the current conflict in Iraq you find yourself not seeing the contemporary conflict context (save for obvious advances in military technology) so much as a focus on the personal sacrifices soldiers and families made throughout history- this serves as an ever-present risk of exposure we all face. Interestingly, even though one sub plot is a sniper to sniper dramatic conflict, I was caught up on the impact of the carnage on many peoples lives-. The other plot revolves around the at home experience- a bit like "We Were Soldiers" (- a great movie)... but much more compelling and well rounded in this picture.

Whether you like the West being involved in Iraq or not, those soldiers face incredible risks and hardship (psychological and physical) to keep terrorism away from our shores.

This film is based on the true-life story of Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper), America's deadliest sniper. The movie portrays Chris as a super patriot from Texas, smart, but not too verbal. He had four tours in Iraq becoming a legend while distancing himself from his family with each tour. The film showed him suffering emotionally from his actions while displaying a tough exterior.

This is not exactly a war action film, but more of a war drama. It is a character study of someone that is hard to know. We got to see his boot-camp, early life, and bits of each of his four tours to complete the 130 minute bio. His demise is not shown but is included as an end note.

Worth viewing as a history and bio.The controversy involving some of his claims is not included. No Jesse Ventura, no shooting Katrina looters, no killing high jackers which is what we would call "sea stories."

Guide: F-bomb. Implied sex. No nudity.

Chris Kyle. I can't imagine there are many who haven't heard his name or know his story.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is releasing American Sniper, the movie based on the life of Chris Kyle, on Blu-ray/Dvd on May 19/15. Clint Eastwood is the director.

Kyle is the most lethal sniper in US military history - and he was the most wanted man in Iraq. But there's so more to this story - it's also the story of a father, a husband and a veteran.

Eastwood grabs the viewer right from the start with a tension filled opening scene in Iraq on Kyle's first mission. From that we are taken back to Kyle's childhood and move forward through his four tours in Iraq,

Gentle viewers be warned - there are graphic scenes and violence. But, what Eastwood has shown us is not movie make believe - it's reality, difficult as it might be to watch. (The special effects, setting and sound effects were incredible) But also explored is the effect of war on those waiting at home - and the difficulty re-integrating into 'everyday' life - PTSD. (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

Bradley Cooper plays Kyle - and quite honestly I thought he was amazing. Having watched clips of the real Chris Kyle, I was so impressed with his portrayal - physicality, accent and more. This role takes Cooper leaps and bounds beyond roles such as Hangover.

I encourage you to watch this as the story of Chris Kyle and his family and not as a commentary on politics and war. I felt so many emotions as the movie played out and was absolutely drained by the closing credits. I cannot even begin to imagine the reality. Highly recommended.
