So my husband and I love love love America's test kitchen, but I thought this missed the mark. The reason I say this is because it has become generally accepted (unless you are the American government) that sugar is related to health issues and obesity, more so than fat. These recipes are low fat but high sugar. America's test kitchen makes super tasty recipes and provides valuable research into methods and products for cooking and baking.
I was hoping for a healthy version of their standard family cookbook which this claims to be.
So if you are looking for super tasty low fat (only) recipes - this is awesome..but if you were looking for tasty healthy low sugar recipes, this is not the book.

My grown-up daughters and I love this cookbook. We have copies in three households! We like the explanation of why and how healthy changes were made to recipes and how the taste-testers responded. There are wonderful tips for improved results - like soaking the potato wedges before oven-roasting, or how to grill on your barbecue with amazing juicy but non-sticky results. The authors are not shy about making specific brand recommendations for ingredients and suggestions for excellent kitchen gadgets and cookware - useful even for experienced cooks and already well-supplied kitchens. There are recipes for all courses and types of meals. But what did we like best? The authors do not sacrifice taste and texture to fulfill the "healthy changes" mandate. The Caesar salad dressing recipe tastes every bit as decadent as the classic home-made concoction we have used in our family for decades. A wonderful all round cookbook!

I have only tried out a few things from this cookbook since I got it, but the things I have tried are fantastic! I am always impressed with the quality of recipes that come from America's Test Kitchen. This addition, in particular, includes all of the nutritional information for each dish - something very important for me to keep track of. It's hard to find a cookbook where you know without a doubt you will have amazing recipes each and every time and that you can be assured they are good for you, or at least you know how bad for you they are :)

I've been making the green smoothie every morning for the past few weeks and right away I noticed a difference in my skin, hair, and nails. I'm hooked on this as part of my breakfast.

We bought this book as a gift for a family member a few months after purchasing one for ourselves. The recipes are clear and informative and presented with the same high standards expected from an America's Test Kitchen publication - they make it difficult for you to fail. This would be a fine addition for anyone wanting to incorporate healthy cooking into their diet.
