Margaret Atwood is the author of more than forty volumes of poetry, children's literature, fiction, and non-fiction, but is best known for her novels. The Tent (mini-fictions) and Moral Disorder (short fiction) both appeared in 2006. Her most recent volume of poetry, The Door, was published in 2007. In Other Worlds: SF and the Human Imagination, a collection of non-fiction essays appeared in 2011. Her non-fiction book, Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth was adapted for the screen in 2012. Why, dear Margaret? To delight us; to show that like a dolphin in a sea of words, Canada's top writer can splash about and do a few flips as she expertly turns the "comic book genre" of the '40's (we are the same age) into a fresh and enticing teaching tool. No coincidence, that Atwood is partnering with Nature Canada to encourage "Safe Cat Pledges" to protect both wild birds and the house cats who are allowed out to stalk them. A recipe for disaster: the birds and the free-roam cats usually die young, a sad story for all of us who love both cats and birds. Atwood to the rescue!!
Be assured, our dear literary old lady, that we will line up in February 2017 for our copy of "Angel Catbird Volume 2".
In the meantime, your non-fiction anthology "The Secret Lives of Geek Girls" will soon be for sale, to tide us over. A thoughtful gesture!
I also didn't like the cat facts at the bottom of pages. I found it to be distracting and took away from the flow of the panels. Good intentions, poorly executed. A fact page at the end of chapter would have worked better.
On the positive, the artwork was very good.
The "art" is journeyman at best. In all, the work is a complete disappointment.
