I've read several self-help books and listened to a few self-help CD's that make getting more out of my life such a heavy duty chore it's not worth the effort or a pretty empty message hidden within a lot of mumbo jumbo you wish you would have taken the money you spent on the book and spent it on an unreliable and cheap fortune teller down by the docks instead. The fortune teller may not tell you anything worthwhile about how to make your life better but at least you'd be entertained.
I say these CD's are inspirational, rather than motivational, because I now feel as if what I dream of doing is entirely possible. There is no reason why I can't accomplish my ideal life. Even looking at the bad that's happened in my life now has a positive slant on the impact it's had on my life. Making simple changes in what I say to people really does affect how they react to my words and how my view of what is possible begins to change.
No rah, rah, come on, you can do it, go get em tiger motivational poster nonsense here. No making charts, emptying out your junk drawer, and throwing out your beloved go-go boots to move on in your life. Just common sense, inspiration that lets you know you can live a better life. All you need is the realization that the deep dark secret to living that better life is you.
Yep, the answer really is you. Or in my case, me.
The package includes a complete audio program and a bonus CD of a one-on-one Q&A and I have to say its quite good. For those of you familiar with Agape you know there is music as part of the program with Rickie Byars Beckwith and the likes of Will.i.AM from Black Eyes Peas fame.
The CD gets right to the point and starts the profound questions about life and how to live the best life possible. But instead of rambling on about do this and do that, Beckwith gives personal anecdotes and solutions on how to tackle lifes most profound problems. For example he spends considerable time on how every delay for something we have wished for is not a denial but merely means there is something more we need to grow from to help us on our next evolution and once we reach that level of consciousness and start expressing it, things will change.
CD number 2 is more comprehensive on-on-one which tackles everything from how do you know life is good, to healings, inner work, money, meditaton, forgiveness, and gratitude.
If your new to this then Id say this CD is a good start, but be sure to read his other books or those by Ernest Holmes and other New Thought philosophers. If you've heard some of it b4 Im sure you can still benefit from Perfection makes Perfect and listen to things with a brand new ears and perspective, as like me you might "get" or become more aware of something than before.
This one is a keeper. Enjoy.
It's very motivational - it will put you in a positive attitude. It's really about giving you hope - telling you all about the good stuff you're destined for. However, there is literally no actionable advice on this recording. That's where it falls short for me.
Beckwith is famous for being one of the teachers on "The Secret". He's extremely charismatic, and that comes through in this recording.
This program consists of two CD's. The first CD is a recording of a live presentation which played on PBS. I like his speaking style-- he has a way of creating new words which make me smile.
I found myself laughing at his depiction of the "worry free diet"-- after pointing out that worry has no transformational value (and in fact immerses you in what isn't even happening)-- he explains that you have to have your "NotSo Ball" soup-- whenever you hear negativity you have to say, "not so." Then you follow it with Cheerios-- when someone comes up and starts gossiping or telling you worst case scenario, you say "Oh?" rather than agreeing with them. And then you get into your "grateful fruit"-- looking for what you can be grateful for. It was a clever and entertaining track, and a positive way to deal with worry.
The presentation tracks alternate with music-- I liked some of the recordings but not others. One of the tracks has a nice version of Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror." Nice, uplifting messages.
The second disc is an interview with Michael Bernard Beckwith. This disc is more mellow and sounds like an NPR-type interview with the mellow "Sounds True" recordings interviewer. I found myself mentally drifting off during this disc-- it's an OK interview; I just prefer the energy of his presentations.
This is an enjoyable program and worth listening to, but I am only giving it 4 stars because I prefer the more complete Life Visioning Kit.
Disc 2 is my favorite, and is in an interview format with Tami Simon asking the pertinent questions. Beckwith gets into the nitty gritty on this disc, about forgiveness, our participation in creating our lives (this was an "aha" moment for me, as I hadn't thought of it as being evolutionary before), and with an excellent meditation segment, where he reminds us that we can sit for 20 minutes and only get 2 minutes of being with the source, but that 2 minutes is worth it! Disc 2 total time is 78:37
It's all about progressing towards the light. As Beckwith says, "Hell is stagnation. Heaven is expansion, going from completeness to completeness," and how asking "How can I grow?" is the mature question.
"How can I grow?
What can I give?
What can I celebrate?"
