Format: Blu-ray
Ant-Man introduces Paul Rudd as our new Avenger. Scott Lang (Rudd) is a thief/ hacker who spent time in jail. He wants nothing more than to go straight and establish a life with visitation rights for his daughter (Abby Ryder Fortson). His wife (Judy Greer) is about to move on with a policeman (Bobby Cannavale).

In a subplot Dr. Hank Pym is played by Michael Douglas who comes on the scene, almost doing an aside, and says "I'm still alive." He was part of a company that shrinks the space between atoms. It is now run by Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) with the assistance of his own daughter (Evangeline Lilly).

The two subplots come together with formula results, it was like watching the first "Iron Man" again which isn't too bad, just predictable. The script is filled with humorous moments and a few memorable lines. It leads us into an Avengers sequel which isn't bad for Paul Rudd fans.

Guide: No sex or nudity. Minor swearing. No F-bombs.

Once might say that the plot of Ant-Man is a bit derivative, hitting beats that the first Iron Man film had--that is, a villainous bald protégé villain creates a duplicate suit of the hero's. But Paul Rudd's Scott Lang is a far more likeable character than the un-heroic, Downey-portrayed Stark. Scott is presented as a person who cares about others, and is only labeled a criminal because of his one Robin Hood act. Even his cohorts in the burglary business are presented as people who would never kill. Luis (amusingly played by Michael Peña) is shown going out of his way to save the life of a security guard he previously immobilized, for example. Scott even learns to care about his ant assistants. On the other side of the coin, the villainous Darren Cross, uses helpless animals for experimentation and kills without a flicker of conscience.

On that point, the film suffers from some scripting plot holes. Pym mentions that years of shrinking can take a toll on the body, and even result in mental deterioration if the helmet he invented isn't worn. What doesn't make sense is that later everyone is telling Cross that he's acting the way he is because of the Pym particle's effect on his brain. But he was shown being an immoral killer long before he donned the Yellowjacket uniform and first shrunk. Flaws aside, though, the movie has some funny scenes and the shrinking effects are interesting to watch and well done. The scene with Ant-Man confronting the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) is definitely the high point of the film.

It starts off okay, but it quickly degenerates into a cartoonish mess of ideas, disengaging me from the story. Even with a likable lead character and some inspired comical elements, I found it impossible to care about anything or anybody here. At least the 3D was super clear which I appreciate. Other than that, I was just sorta waiting for it all to end.

Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence.

If you saw it in theatres, Ant Man is probably a movie you went to see with lower expectations than other Marvel comic movies. Everyone knows Spiderman, but who the heck is Ant Man? Despite being less renowned than other mainstream characters in the Marvel universe, this film delivers on several fronts. There's a fair dose of action balanced by just the right amount of comedy, and the plot combined with excellent performances from Rudd and Michael Douglas (Hank Pym) make this film a popcorn-worthy movie experience.

Paul Rudd plays Ant-Man, the new superhero addition to the Avengers. This movie looks more like a character set-up for introducing Ant-Man as one of the Avengers in the future installment of Avengers. Rudd's character Scott Lang is a one-time corporate thief who is looking for redemption. That redemption comes in the role of Ant-Man, who works for the creator of the suit that Ant-Man wears. That creator is Dr Pym played by Michael Douglas. It's a decent superhero action movie. There are some laughs, plenty of action, and a set-up for more things to come in the future Avengers movies.

I enjoyed this movie. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie. There is always a lot of hype for superhero movies and some fall flat. I would definitely see it again. You never really know what to expect from superhero movies nowadays but I found that this movie delivered and there is nowhere to go but up. There is the tie-in to the Avengers so it'll be interesting to see how the movies and characters tie-in to each other as well as break apart from each other in there own independent films.

Best 3Dfilmed movie yet . the 3D in this movie is and should be the new standard for all movies. The story is good with good performances put in by all involved. Would highly recommend. Hope there will be a sequel.

A great origin story that turns into a heist movie and then end with 2 fights between Ant-Man (Scott Lang) and Yellowjacket (Darren Cross) interrupted by Scott getting tasered.
