It hard to be enthusiastic about an air pump. It works well and I am satisfied with it. Its a little noisy as they all are.

HASH(0xa4f123a8) out of 5 stars Great pump! Here's how to make it quiet! Dec 6 2013
By Colin Faber - Published on Amazon.com
I first bought this pump about 3 years ago because the various 'whisper' pumps I tried didn't have the pressure, or desired air volume. This pump solved both of those problems, however it was noisy.

After 3 years of constant noise I finally had enough and decided to correct the problem. Fixing noise issue was extremely simple, As this pump generates air via linear piston, the noise was actually coming from the tank it self. The simple fix was to build low-pressure surge tank. This consisted of a 4" diameter by 8" long piece of ABS piping, two end caps, two brass nipples and a bit of foam. Pump output gets routed into the sealed pipe, then out again into the tank. Wallah! 95% noise reduction for around $10 worth of materials. At this point on my 120 gallon tank all I hear is the air stone noise!

HASH(0xa51ccb04) out of 5 stars Unbelievably loud May 21 2012

I read the reviews and I knew that this would not be "quiet", but I was not ready for how loud it truly is. Maybe it does a great job. Maybe it's better than diaphragm pumps...that's all well and good, but if you can't be within 30' of the tank because it's so loud, it is a waste. We put this in the tank cabinet and turned this on with the air valves off. The sound that came from the pump was the equivalent of a loud TV. There is no way to have a normal conversation in the same room as this pump when it was running. As a test, I turned it on, closed the cabinet, and made a call from my speaker phone that is about 10' from the tank, and the person on the other line asked me what the noise was without me prompting them. So, while this may very well be a solid product for what it is supposed to do, it is just too noisy to be practical in most situations.

HASH(0xa5857f98) out of 5 stars High Volume Air Pump Feb. 11 2012
By Tim Harrington - Published on Amazon.com

I purchased this air pump seeking a pump that would be able to power a large set of airstones at a depth of 3 feet. Many other pumps that I tried were not quite up to the task.

This pump is louder than a standard vibrator pump, but if you need a heavy duty device that pumps a lot of air, then this is the one.

Update: 8/18/2012 - I'm sorry to report that the pump has failed after 8 months of service at a depth of 3 feet. Although the pump was loud, it was acceptable given the volume of air that it pumped when new. However, over time it got louder and then lost the ability to provide even a meager amount of air at a depth of 3 feet.

HASH(0xa7c67f90) out of 5 stars Powerful aquarium pump Jan. 10 2011

I have gone through several aquaruim air pumps in the last 3 years. The last one was a whisper 100 which was only about half the price of this one and lasted about 6 months. The whisper pump was really not any quieter than this one. This pump puts out alot of air and can be adjusted easily with the valves on the included manifold. It is not silent, but it is not realy loud either. If you want a silent pump, this is not for you. If you need good constant air it will deliver. I have had this pump for about 1 month now with no issues.

HASH(0xa517ec3c) out of 5 stars Does the job PERFECT Feb. 26 2012

We are a nightclub with 2 large bubble walls. All locally sourced air pumps, even so called high output/heavy duty models, did not generate enough air power to run our bubble walls. This Aqueon Coralife does the job with ease. Thanks.
