Product Description

This book in the English language about artificial intelligence (AI) programmed to think in the German language describes the interior workings of AI Minds that think not only in German but also in English and in Russian. Because the book "AI4U" (Artificial Intelligence for You) was already published about the English AI Minds in 2002, now in 2013 it is time to focus an e-book on the German AI Wotan. Next in 2014 there may also be an e-book about the Russian AI Dushka.

Publication of this book on artificial intelligence in German follows upon the release of the free, open-source AI program Wotan written in the Forth programming language and derived from the original MindForth program that thinks in English. Both MindForth and Wotan have reached a plateau in their development as the work of a single independent scholar in artificial intelligence, who has authored this e-book and may author a separate e-book on artificial intelligence in Russian. If Wotan comes to the attention of AI programmers who would like to advance the state of the art in German AI, further
development may branch out into multiple locations, multiple programming languages, and multiple embodiments of each AI Mind in humanoid robots, Web domains, and perhaps exotic circumstances like interplanetary spacecraft.

Prospective readers of this AI-in-German e-book may be curious to know why the author and independent AI scholar came to be creating an artificial Mind that thinks and reasons in the language of Nietzsche and Einstein. When the honorable
schoolboy was studying Latin at Blanchet High School in Seattle WA USA, he could not join his friends in German class because he wanted to continue with Latin after the first year. So he bought the German text book and learned German (and Russian) as an autodidact. His major field of study at the University of
Washington was ancient Greek and Latin classics. When he eventually took up computer programming for his philosophic life-goal of AI and created a simple AI Mind that could think in English, his own fluency in German and Russian meant that he did not have to pay somebody or cajole somebody into coding German and Russian AI, because he could do it himself.

All three AI Minds in English, German and Russian are still in their relative, proof-of-concept infancy. Across the keyboard, you may converse with each AI Mind in its native language, but only with inputs that conform to the mental structures that have been coded into the AI. Each AI Mind can handle basic sentence structures of the Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) variety. Out on the Web you can find the English AiMind.html in JavaScript for Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) and you can try out the English AI before you commit to obtaining Forth and the German Wotan AI. You may observe how the English AI performs automated reasoning with inference before you invest in this e-book or in the German Wotan AI. But you must not expect any of the AI Minds to communicate grandiloquently with you on an adult level. Even when you teach the AI a new word in English, German or Russian, you should introduce only one new word at a time so as not to confuse the AI and cause it to learn the word with the wrong
grammatical parameters. These AI Minds are not yet robust and bullet-proof for mission-critical applications.

The original author of the English AI Mind was able to translate the program into a German AI and a Russian AI, but he did not have robots and a workshop for achieving embodiment of the AI with sensory inputs and motor outputs. Therefore much labor remains for those AI workers who have the means and skill to advance further the state of German AI as presented respectfully in this humble e-book.
