As an Assassin's Creed fan, this had a lot of wasted potential.

Pro:
- they got rid of the one-hit kills on counter attacks and chain kills. Combat is more challenging and you are encouraged to be more stealthy and use different attacks.
- amazing representation of 18th century Paris. The place is bustling with activity and ridiculously detailed. The lighting makes everything stand out really well.
- Co-op, for the first time, works surprisingly well. Heists are challenging and fun, with changing environments with each time you play.

Cons:
- loads of glitches at launch time. To be fair they have really commited to fixing everything and lot of it already has been in just a couple of weeks. They're also giving people the DLC for free as compensation, which is both smart, and a nice gesture to the fans who had to suffer through this.
- Absolute waste of a story. It starts off mildly interesting and then goes nowhere. Worst writing in the series by far, even if not quite the snoozefest of AC3.
- Really dull mission objectives in some cases, especially the side missions. Don't try to 100% this.
- Stealth mechanic hasn't really improved despite its greater importance. Both Splinter Cell Blacklist's and Watch Dogs' were vastly superior, and the latter wasn't even a stealth game! Lots of glitchiness here as well.
- Lack of the traditional multiplayer modes like PvP or Wolfpack.

In short this game could really have used another 6-12 months in the oven, a new creative director that can rein in all the excesses and deliver a coherent story, and a better stealth system. As it stands it's 3/5 stars at bestt. Better just wait for price drop or AC: Victory.

So far I'm kind of underwhelmed by the game, after the stunning vistas, epic ship battles and fantastic characters that contributed to the success of Black Flag, this game seems like a step back in the Assassins Creed Franchise. Although it seems like a great launching pad for the series due to it's extremely dense recreation of Paris and deep customization options, at about 12 hours in I'm sadly not enjoying the game as much as it's predecessor. One of the biggest beefs I have with this game are it's continuous acts at pulling me out of the immersion of the world they are trying to create, just to give you an example, I came across 3 different chests within my first hour of play that I could not open. The first which was understandable which was that my lock picking skill wasn't high enough, but the other two.... oh the other two. It came as a shock to me when I tried to open 2 other coloured chests and each had me either A) sign up for Ubisoft's companion app or B) sign up for their "initiates" service, just to open 2 different chests! Which might I add are needed to 100% the game. Yes there are bugs at launch but sadly that's becoming the norm with most AAA games as the projects get bigger and production windows get smaller, but these will be patched in time, so as an early adopter it's really not fair to throw it all on Ubi's shoulders. All in all it's a good game, with some fantastic features but the ones they left out seem to be the most noticeable, 6.5 out of 10 for me.

I've been a fan of the franchise since the first game in the series came out, and I'm hugely disappointed in Ubisoft for what they've came to after 7 years. First of all, after a day one update (about 2 GB) and another one last week (again, 2 GB), the game is still full of glitches. Most often than not, I can't move around as I want to, and Arno jumps somewhere he is not supposed to. Combine this with a mission where you're supposed to be stealthy and avoid being seen, and sometimes you just mess up your whole progress in one stupid jump. There are too many side stories, but none of them so far has been half as compelling as the side stories in Black Flag. They're mostly consisted of going to someplace, using your eagle vision to find your target, talk with him or her, and then move on to the next location. The ability to upgrade your gear and customize your character is a promising addition, but I don't like the idea of micro transactions in a game that I've already paid 70 dollars for. You will hugely enjoy the co op missions if you have 2 or 3 other friends who wants to play this game (which I don't) and playing the co op missions with 3 strangers can be really frustrating.
To be fair, the game looks amazing. The graphics are unbelievably realistic, and exploring Paris has been the most fun I've had with this game.
All in all, I think it's a huge step backward from Black Flag or even Revelations. I just hope the next one is better.

The first assassin's creed game that I have completed. A very fun game with beautiful graphics. The frame rate is steady in most parts, except when running through a street with 100 or more people. The art design is great and it feels like the place and time in history. Controls are hard at first, however once you have mastered it, the gameplay is fun and fluid for the most part. The patch has fixed the game and I didn't encounter any game breaking glitches. Item was delivered the next day after the order was approved. About 24 hours in total. With free standard shipping.
