Product Description

Violet Winters once had it all but lost it when her husband was murdered by a criminal madman. During a cold winter night Violet has to leave her warm bed to tell her neighbor to turn the music down. And that’s when she meets sinister, scarred, scarily attractive security specialist, Joe Callahan.

She wants to deny it, but Violet can’t beat back the hunger she feels for Joe so she gives in again and again. Feeling it himself, Joe feeds Vi’s hunger, breaking his own rules to keep her in his bed.

Even though Violet had only one man in her life, she’s sure Joe is giving her the signals and Vi decides she’s ready to take a second chance at life and, maybe, love. But Violet doesn’t know the dark secrets in Joe’s past, secrets so soul-wrenching, they’ve drained him dry. With nothing left to give, Joe’s determined to live his life alone and he breaks Violet’s heart.

Crushed by Joe’s betrayal, Violet comes to terms with the fact that, no matter what signals he gave, Joe was not theirs to win. But Violet’s husband’s murderer is obsessed with her and heartbreak again haunts the door of the Winters home. When it does Joe is forced to face the knowledge that he can’t fight Violet’s pull, she’s under his skin and filled him full to bursting.

Joe needs to win her back and put his life on the line to keep Violet safe. But, having had it all once, can Violet endure losing Joe?

About the Author

Kristen Ashley is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She grew up in Indiana, but has lived in Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she’s been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least), but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, living in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

This romantic story was full of love, happiness, friendship but then also extreme hurt, loss, & at times betrayal. The way Violet and her girls live for each other was beautiful to read about and follow as they journeyed to new beginnings.

Cal was hot as was Mike and the way these two alpha men worked for Violet's attention was interesting to following. Cal was a hard nut to crack and you knew he was carrying hurt but you knew in your heart that Violet was the lady to fill him back up.

The friends that surrounded these two and supported them along with extended family was great to read about. I had tears in my eyes at one particularly distressing part of the story and also felt for Violet as she played out her love triangle and how she found her inner peace in making the right decision.

This is fantastic romantic reading about second chances at love, family and inner peace.

This is one of my top 5 Kristen Ashley books. You will love Cal aka Joe (Alpha Male along the same lines as Tate from Sweet Dreams & Tack from Motorcycle Man)...But you will also be saying at times WHAT THE "@?*¿" to some of his actions. However, like all her books you begin to understand Joe and you'll fall in love with him along with Violet and her two girls. You will laugh at parts and maybe even cry, but that's what makes this such a good read. I also liked that Violet was a strong women with a big heart, she like most girls calls on her girlfriends for advice, can get into a catfight when justifiably provoked and can tie a cherry stem with her tongue. The secondary characters also added to this story. I can't wait for Frankie and Benny's story! I also wouldn't mind finding out what happens to Mel or maybe seeing a Kate and Landon (Shy's brother from Own The Wind) pairing in an upcoming book (just wishful hoping on my part)!

I loved At Peace, the 2nd of The 'Burg Series by the incredible Kristen Ashley. How she can find all the twists and turns of each storyline. And her alphas - like Joe (Cal) Callahan - all of her heros are alike in that they are tough and, usually, they have had a difficult, perhaps abusive, childhoods but they are all loving, know just what to say at the appropriate moment, supportive, sexy as all heck, great in bed (always the best), and always become a one-woman man (but only after they find "the one"). Joe Callahan is a wonderful alpha - perfect - just what the doctor ordered for his new next-door neighbor, Violet (Vi-oh-my) Winters and her 2 beautiful teenage daughters. 2 years ago, Vi's husband Tim was murdered by a mafia-like kingpin who was stalking Vi so she pulled up stakes in Chicago and moved her girls to the 'Burg where she bought a house in the same neighborhood as Alexander Colton and Feb Owens from For You, Book 1 of The 'Burg Series. But what is better is that Joe (Cal) Callahan is right next door and wow, the 'Burg really heats up after these 2 meet - I loved Book 1 but love Book 2 even better - am now reading Book 3 Golden Trail and a few chapters in it may become my fave of The 'Burg series - you will not be disappointed.

I loved, loved, loved this book. I want a handsome, silent, slightly scary Joe to move next door to me! Joe was kind of the perfect guy. I'll admit he had a rough start with Violet, but once he figured his head out boy did he become a lovable hottie!! And Violet, she is just an awesome person. She is an awesome mom, and a caring person. I would want her to be my neighbor too lol. And I loved Kate and Keira, they were a big part of the book, not just background kids like in some books. This book has definitely gone on my 'Favourite Kristen Ashley Books' list. And I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
