Four Powerful Processing Cores

With the Athlon II X4 series, AMD engineers have combined four cores into a single processor, giving you enough processing muscle for even the most highly threaded applications. Each core is also equipped with dedicated L1 and L2 cache that streamlines memory access and helps reduce latency.

For users, this means that you'll be able to run all the latest software without the slowdown you'd experience with an inferior processor. Your computer will be able to handle multiple programs, allowing you to multitask more efficiently. And you'll be able to enjoy next-gen media and games without any frame-rate hiccups.

Cutting-Edge Technologies for Faster Processing

The Athlon II X4 also makes use of several other performance-boosting technologies, including:

  • HyperTransport Bandwidth: Speeds up communication between the processor and memory, supporting transfer speeds of up to 4.4 GT/s.
  • Integrated Memory Controller: Actively scales bandwidth uses to match your computing needs, dramatically reducing slowdown.
  • Dedicated Floating-Point Unit (FPU): Allows processor to execute floating-point calculations with extreme speed.
Gaming without Slowdown

PC gaming continues to improve at a breakneck rate, with graphics, physics, and AI growing more realistic each year. But you'll need more than just a good graphics card to keep up with the latest games. For certain games that are heavily threaded, a slow CPU can quickly become a bottleneck for performance and can ruin your gaming experience.

Fortunately, the Athlon II series has been specifically designed to handle CPU-intensive games. With its multiple cores, the processor can manage thousands of high-speed gaming calculations at once. The result is a smooth, immersive gaming experience, free of any stuttering or latency.

The Ultimate in Energy Efficiency and Cooling

AMD products are known for their stellar energy efficiency and the Athlon II X4 630 is no exception. The processor features AMD's proprietary PowerNow and CoolCare technology, which allow the processor to smartly regulate its own energy consumption. Having an energy-efficient computer doesn't just help keep costs down; it also generates less heat and helps your computer to run more quietly. It will even prolong your processor's life cycle, so you can enjoy it for years without having to worry about degradation.

The AMD Athlon II X4 630 Quad-Core Processor is backed by a three-year warranty.

HASH(0xa49935fc) out of 5 stars Budget Builders Dream June 10 2010

While pricing out parts from a suggested build (go to maximumpc daht calm and search $647 pc) for my wife, I was pleasantly surprised to see this quad core selling at the same price as the dual core originally suggested. Yes, the updated article suggests a 620 quad, but it was dual first. This is even faster than the 620 in that list now, and the price is the same.

When you consider the fact that these chips are so crazily upgradeable due to the chipset they work with, it will soon dawn on you that this bargain can become another upgrade wonder with the hexacore Phenom II X6 1090T in the future if you choose. Prices will only drop here, folks. The stock cooler that comes with it is plenty effective for non-overclockers. Installation was simple for even a newb like me with the enclosed instructions.

I can't believe my wife, who only wanted to spend a few hundred bucks on a computer, is driving a quad core for a fraction of what I spent on a vastly inferior build years ago...the hollowed out corpse of that computer enshrining her new baby. GET YOURSELF THIS BARGAIN IF YOU VALUE A PRICE TO FEATURES RATIO IN YOUR FAVOR.

Very fast processor - I can't believe that this is the kind of performance you can get for the money these days! Four cores does wonders for multi tasking, 95W model keeps the power consumption and heat down. haven't tried OCing it yet, but there is almost no need to!

HASH(0xa4993db8) out of 5 stars The Best Price/Performance Ratio March 4 2010

AMD still gives you the best price/performance ratio. The Athlon II X4 630 is a nice cool running chip that makes for a great primary or backup system. I'm using the Asus Crosshair III board with an AMD Phenom X4 965. The second box I built as a hot standby uses the same MOBO with the 630 at a lower cost, but is still very capable.

You won't get any more bang for your buck in any other processor. Processor very stable, stays very cool (below 36 C) at full load with stock fan after overclocking to 3.122 Ghz.
