Hi all - just a short note now and more later. You're likely reading this because you're interested in my techy book, the "Audio Wiring Guide". That book took 17 years (off and on) and is a whole-hearted effort to teach something in writing (soldering, wiring and design) that can really only be taught by doing, by working with your own hands on projects to gain skill.

So my first tip is - if you want to get the most out of the "AWG" don't just read about wiring a guitar plug. Make the effort to wire a guitar plug, using my book as a step-by-step guide. Better yet, wire 10-20 guitar plugs, and try to do each one better. After 15 or so, you really get a good groove...

These days I do computers more then audio - I work on Windows, Macintosh, and Linux machines. I'm enthusiastic about Linux - the Linux computers I build run super-fast and are very stable.

Got to run - if you're interested in more go to www.zenarrow.com

Thanks!

John Hechtman

All of this information is available on videos on the net, however I find its helpful to have it in written to review before starting a project and in front of you when putting these things together, expensive but worth it for me.

I highly recommend this very informative book to all DJ's, sound technicians, audio engineers, do-it-yourself enthusiasts; etc. You'll save a lot of time and money in the long run.

5.0 out of 5 stars Professional Audio Cable Wiring Training with Pictures from a professional with 40 years experience!

Audio Wiring Guide: How to wire the most popular audio and video connectors  I have been making Audio Cables for the past year knowing that my procedures needed some polishing. My hardest part was wiring a 3.5mm Male Audio connector with Star-Quad cable (4 wires instead of the normal 2) plus shield. An audio engineer recommended John's book and I found the missing links to success thanks to John sharing his 40 years experience in constructing professional audio cables. To me the book was worth 10 times the price. I downloaded the Kindle version and was reading instantly, turning first to the chapter covering the exact connectors I was having trouble with. I had been using "Alligator Clip Helping Hands" and the second I saw John using a small bench vise I knew I was missing something big. His book has chapters for each major audio connector presented clearly step by step with pictures. If you are trying to quess your way along you will find that this book is a treasure!

American, Elsevier, publication (60Hz) etc. 328 pages near a4 size. 2008.

No attempt by author j.hechtman to chase British, Australian, New Zealand, South African, other audio punters with conversion charts/tables/alt-language(slang) to suit other English speaking country(s) in world.

Covers awkward XLR connectors.
pictures very good too.
no list of shops (physical/internet) for where to buy items.
no acceptable alternatives.

A new Mark II version would be useful (see above comments).

I purchased the paperback version and a lot of pages are blank. It skips from page 7 to page 10, for example, and this goes throughout the entire book. It's got some good information, but a large chunk of it is missing.
