Review for Autumn in London (The Empire State Trilogy #2) by Louise Bay

Review done for Hooked on Books

4 ½ out of 5 stars

Anna Kirby has returned home to London from her trip to New York. She can’t stop thinking about Ethan. The sexy, gorgeous man has broken through her fences. It was just supposed to be a fling, so why can’t see get him out of her head?

Ethan Scott has never wanted more than sex with a woman, so why does his body and heart still crave Anna? When he is sent to London on business, he decides he needs to see her again.

Finally together again, they both realize their true feelings for each other. Unfortunately being 3000 miles away from each other is no way to have a relationship.

It is too bad neither one of them could voice their feelings before it was time for Ethan to leave.

I really loved this book. I think it’s because I really love, love Ethan. He is super hot! Ethan and Anna make such a great couple. They really bloomed together.

I really love the dual POV in this series, it really added to the story.

Louise Bay did a fabulous job with this follow and second installment of this trilogy. A definite must read!

Love, love, love this series!!! The writing is great and what I love the most is that it feels so real. None of that BDSM stuff and none of the sex clubs and "no bulls***" to quote Ethan:) I love the storyline and the chemistry between Anna and Ethan is amazing. They burn up the pages! Such a warm and touching romance in my opinion. I am counting down to New Year's in Manhattan!

Stupid serials! UGH! I wish this was all one book. I want to read the third installment like yesterday. I'm forever going to complain about this. But that's not the point of the review. So let's get to it: Autumn in London was a solid second book in the Empire State Trilogy and although I really loved the first half of the book where Anna and Ethan come back together in a rather unexpected circumstance, I felt the book dragged on the second half. The installments would have worked so much better as a standalone book as a whole if they were all together. It's typical for books to lull toward the middle and before the real arc of the story. In serials, there is an arc in every installment, but in Autumn in London the arc was weaker than book one. This is what I find the problem with some serials I have read. They lack the punch to keep the reader interested.

Here's what I know after reading Autumn in London: The way Bay brought the characters back together was clever. We, the reader, didn't know Anna was an attorney just like Ethan in book one. The unexpected helped draw the reader into book two very well. I enjoyed the tension, the sexual vibes, and pursuit of Ethan over Anna again. The beginning of book two was like reading the beginning of book one. Then the book kind of stalled out. The characters are seemingly in a good place for a while, albeit they still have their hangups. Once they figure them out, they are separated again, but there is hope lingering with them for the reader to take into book three. The thrill of the anticipation was not as strong this time around. Although I still really want to know what happens next, it's just not killing to know this time.

One thing I found as an editor that really irked me: Ethan's voice kept slipping into Anna's. Meaning that Anna is English and many times Ethan, an American, spoke with her same dialect. Ethan's phrases, ways of speech, syntax were very English throughout this whole book. More so in book two than in book one. I didn't know if it was because this ARC wasn't edited by possibly an American editor yet, or it was simply missed. But I caught it. This may be something more readers will see as well.

The reason I only gave this three stars was because my interested started to wane in book two. A problem with serials. I think the author needed to make the reader need and want to stay with the series more in this book in order for book three to really work. As it is, I want to read it, but the wait until the book comes may kill my need for it.

Wow.... The second book in the Empire State trilogy... Does not disappoint! Anna and Ethan's story picks right up from the last book.
Ethan is in New York and Anna is in London. It's been a couple of months. The time they shared together has really left their mark on both of them. They both can't seem to move on. Which is really new for Ethan. And something that Anna has been trying to stay away from.... Emotional attachments.
When Ethan's company takes over a law office in London. They send Ethan to oversee the merger. Ethan was both exited and scared about the possibility of seeing Anna again. He knew he wanted to see her but he was scared about how she would take it.
Ethan thought he would have time before contacting Anna again. But he got a big surprise. Anna was a lawyer for the company his company was taking over.
Once he saw her... It was like game over. He wanted her.

Anna... Missed Ethan so much. She couldn't seem to get over their one week together. Once she saw Ethan and the company meeting. She was both shocked and mad.
She really made Ethan work for it. But in the end. She let him in.

This book was so damn hot!!! I loved all the sex that Ethan and Anna were having. The chemistry they had with each other was just off the charts. Everything that they went through just felt right. I love how there is no over the top drama. I love how they seem to get each other.
One thing that kept bugging me was how they never talked about the future. I know they said they would keep everything in the here and now. But once things started getting serious with them. That talk should have just come. Why stay quite about it or just ignore it period. That seemed dumb to me. And slightly immature too.

I also felt that Anna was the one acting childish about the status of the relationship. She always took things too far and never wanted to talk about it. She liked to let things fester. All she had to do was just talk to Ethan. Then everything would be ok. Instead she just let her imagination run away with her.
And that got on my nerves.
And I loved how even though Ethan was new to this whole relationship thing... He never let that get in the way. That's why I didn't understand why Anna was having such a hard time with it. He never gave her a reason to doubt him.
I can't wait for the last book in this series. I want to see how this all ends for Anna and Ethan. And I can't wait to read about all the incredible sex they will be having!

I loved the journey Louise Bay took me on in this installment of the Empire State Series. I feel like it helped level the playing field between Anna & Ethan. They met and fell for each other on his turf, and now they get to really explore their relationship on hers.

I was both shocked and pleased by Anna's reaction to seeing Ethan again in the manner that she did. I enjoyed her jumping to the wrong conclusion and making Ethan work for it. And Ethan, oh Ethan, he was flawless in this book. Treading carefully and trying not to push while wanting more. I found myself holding my breath at the end when Anna wouldn't have "the talk" with him. I wanted to jump into my kindle and shake some sense into the both of them...just get over yourself already!

Now I have to know what happens next! I can't wait to see where the conclusion of this series will lead Ethan and Anna...

HASH(0xa5264b1c) out of 5 stars A good read Nov. 12 2015

Autumn in London is a continuation of Anna and Ethan's story. The first book left off with Anna heading back to London after erasing her number from Ethan's phone (and his from hers). She didn't want anything more than that one week even though she was falling for him. She didn't think he wanted more, and since she kept saying she didn't he didn't press her on it. He just wanted her to be happy.

They have both been missing each other for these past few months. When Ethan goes to London to oversee a merge with a firm there he is not expecting to find Anna working there. They are so great together, though Anna is annoying at times in this one. As Ethan says he is always no bulls***, but she just gets so worked up about nothing! Like she thinks he knew who she was all along and it was just business for him, he was trying to get intel and stuff, which makes no sense! Did you talk about work at all while you were in New York? No? Then why would he have done this if it was just to get intel? He would be the worst at that since you didn't even tell him you were a lawyer! Geez! She just freaks out all the time.

Even after they both tell the other they love them she won't talk about what will happen when Ethan has to go back to New York. He is ready for this, finally has someone he wants to spend time with, be with, and she is just acting like she might not want the same. Argh it was frustrating at times. Whenever he would try to talk to her she would put him off. Not now, let's wait until the last minute when you are leaving in a few hours. Yeah, that is a great idea. She is so worried that he might not want to continue their relationship which is bull. Why would he still be there and tell her he loves her if he didn't want her? He doesn't do bulls***. He says what he thinks so she needs to get over her insecurities. I hope she is not so bad in the last part of their story. Ethan loves her, she loves him, he is determined to make it work either with her moving to New York or him to London so chill. It will be fine. You will get your happily ever after if you can just calm down and talk to the man. He just wants you to be happy even if that means you leave him and breaking his own heart.

HASH(0xa5222594) out of 5 stars 5 stars! Autumn in London, book 2 (3). Ethan & Anna’s affair continues with twist of a forbidden romance! June 1 2015

“I don’t get to speak?”
“Not yet.”
“Then when?”
“When I’ve f*** ed you so hard you’ve forgotten what you wanted to say.”

Novellas in The Empire State trilogy should be read in order:
Part 1: A Week in New York
Part 2: Autumn in London
Part 3: New Year in Manhattan

In A Week in New York, part 1 Anna Kirby, having traveled to New York to get over an ex, met handsome and sexy playboy Ethan Scott. After a steamy one night stand they agree on no-questions-asked sex for the remainder or her week-long stay in New York.

Autumn in London (part 2) picks up four months after the ending of part 1. Ethan is heading to London for three months to oversee a take-over. Another chance encounter has Ethan and Anna working at the same firm entering into the territory of forbidden romance.

The story goes on to follow them during Ethan’s stay in London with kinky borderline frantic sex and budding feelings set against the backdrop of a non-fraternization policy and Ethan’s looming departure back to New York.
“But that’s why we need rules. And number one has got to be no org*sms in the office.”

ETHAN SCOTT: American//$$$$/Dark hair/Blue eyes/Tall.
Eight words to describe Ethan Scott: Charming, elusive, calculated, perceptive, reflective, commanding, non-committal and enigmatic.
“Give me a break, beautiful, my b*lls are already blue.” He groaned.

ANNA KIRBY: British.
Eight words to describe Anna Kirby: Sweet, easy-going, wounded, romantic, reflective, naïve, insecure and adventurous.
“Yes. Just. Like. That,” she breathed.”

Autumn in London, told from dual POVs, was every bit the steamy tale and just the right blend of drama, steam, conflict, romance, surprises and humor. Story ends abruptly, leading right to part 3, New Year in Manhattan for the conclusion of their story.

Off-the-charts sex with risk of discovery! Entertaining plot! Excellent story-telling! Swoon-worthy Ethan Scott!
“If you’re f*** ing me, you’re not f*** ing anyone else.”
“Babe, I’ve never even mentioned a threesome.”
