“Happily ever after is hers for the taking.”

Once upon a time I found myself locked away in Spindle Ridge Asylum, punished for a murder I didn’t commit. It was all part of Maleficent’s evil plan. I didn’t remember who I was then … now I do. My name is Aurora, and I am the rightful queen of this realm. Armed with my memories, I’m ready to take charge of my kingdom once more. Happily ever after evades me, yet I long to claim it with my true love, Sawyer, beside me. That fairy tale ending seems impossible with him locked in the thralls of a sleeping curse. As much as I’d love to sit by his bedside and eagerly await a cure, I must first travel into the terrifying Dark Woods to stop Raven from stripping me of all that is rightfully mine. I am not only a queen, but a warrior who will fight for her kingdom. Some may die. Blood will be shed. But when this ending comes, I will settle for nothing less than a blissful ever after.

This book is amazing. As I sit here trying to gather my thoughts to write this review, that is all I can think. It is amazing. Thank you, Sloat, for creating characters who are strong enough and truly good enough that I am left feeling like their story will continue to be a happy one long after the last page is read. Sometimes I am left feeling like the best moment of the characters lives is the one I just read about. I didn't feel that way when I finished this book. I feel as if these heroic friends will continue to have many more triumphs and happy moments, whether they are written or not. That takes a truly talented writer to achieve.
This book picks up smoothly a few weeks after the previous book ended. Once again, there was no lingering too long in any point of the story, no over description of scenery or characters. The flow was fantastic and made it easy to move through. Aurora has become even more the heroin who is not fearless, but brave, and that is wonderful. She is to be a tremendous ruler who will be fair by all her subjects and will unite her kingdom. Sawyer, though asleep, was still kept in the forefront of the story and I appreciated that. Flashbacks give us insight on their developing love and really made that love feel true and not the whim of teenagers. Friends from the previous book still continue their role in the story and we make new friends along the way and, even though they are new to the final book in a series, they are well developed and quickly become vital to the story.
I am going to stop now because I could really get into some spoilers. I finished this book and wanted to sit and talk about it so badly I had to bite my tongue. A good book does that. I will most definitely be reading more by Christy Sloat and recommend you read this book.

This book picks right back up where “Slumber” left off. Now that Rory has discovered who she really is and has killed the evil fairy Maleficent, she has to do what she must, to save her kingdom from the clutches of Maleficent’s apprentice, Raven. If you disliked Maleficent, like I did, you will absolutely loath the cruel, heartless, and vile Raven. In comparison, Raven makes Maleficent look like a sweet school girl. Sadly for Rory, the love of her life, Sawyer, is still confined to a deep sleep from a curse that he was placed under to keep him alive after Raven slit his throat and left him for dead. I like in this book that we get to explore the world of Ancora and meet several of the inhabitants that live there. I also like how their world is intertwined and connected to our world. I love how you can see Rory’s confidence grow throughout this book. Mrs. Sloat did an excellent job portraying all of Rory’s passion, tenacity, and love she has for her kingdom and its inhabitants. Not only does Rory have a kingdom, Sawyer, and Raven to worry about, there is a neighboring kingdom that have been trying to concoct ways to infiltrate and overthrow Ancora. If there was a side to be on I would definitely pick Rory’s. “I will settle for nothing less than a blissful ever after!”-Rory I adored this book and everything about it! I would tell anyone who loves a good fairy tale or a spin on a classic that this book it is a must read!
HASH(0x9e5dc624) out of 5 stars Lacking something that I loved about the first book March 4 2016

*I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It took me awhile to write a review for this book (sorry!). I love the characters and the basic fairy-tale "feel" of the book made in a modern way. Rory is the one doing the saving instead of waiting for her prince to come to her rescue. Awesome! As these beloved character continue on their quest, Rory much make more choices to benefit her kingdom.

Even though Awaken had many great qualities, I felt that it lacked something that the first book held onto with it's unique setting, premise, and spin on a fairy tale I knew and loved. Awaken seemed to lack something in this way.

I loved the various journeys I was able to follow (Raven, the fairies, etc...), but at times I felt like the characters didn't trust me to remember what their various quests were about. One character would mention the quest several times or readdress something that was already covered several times.

So, while I enjoyed parts of this sequel, I loved the first one with much more of my heart.

What a finish! Slumber is going out with a bang! Rory is making up for lost time, and she is raging mad for what Raven has done, all she can focus on is waking her beloved Sawyer and getting her revenge! But now she is about to be crowned queen and has a kingdom to run and people to unite, when all she wants to do is sit by Sawyer’s side. We get to meet new fun and wonderful characters in this awesome finale, some you love and some you love to hate! There are so many elements and things happening, you will be at the edge of your seat the entire time, hoping for what you wish to happen and praying that what you think is gonna happen, doesn’t happen. I cried!! Man I cried! Some happy tears, and some heart wrenching sobs! I don’t want to give one single thing away in my review, but this book is a must read filled with love, heartache, fighting, funny, sadness, and perfection. The things that Rory has had to deal with in her short 18 years is not fair, will she be able to win her battles and come out on top with her happily ever after?

What a great finale to a story I heard many times before but not like this, Rory who we all know as Aurora from sleeping beauty takes us through her trials and tribulations , her ups and downs and most of all through her path to save the man she loves, I am not ashamed to say that I read with tissues in hand and with my heart on my sleeve from this beautiful tale like its never been told before. Christy beautiful writing sucks you in from the moment you read the first page and while there were moments where I felt sadness and cried my eyes out, the ending couldn't have been better. I loved reading Slumber and I loved reading Awaken even more. The greatest thing an author can do is attract a reader and make that reader feel as if she is part of that world and I clearly felt I was part of Ancora !! Rory spunk and bullheadedness reminded me of myself and could clearly understand the way Rory felt and that is what makes this book so wonderful. I am so glad I had the opportunity to read such a great book.
