“…this popular series' relatively clean nature, dearth of profanity and graphic sex, and basic premise of good vs. evil make it a fine choice for public and high school libraries.” ―Library Journal
“Yes! Awakened was once more narrated by Caitlin Davies…she does an amazing job capturing everyone in the story, and leaves listeners eagerly wanting even more from the HOUSE OF NIGHT.” ―Teens Read Too
“Ms. Davies delivered a very captivating reading of the eighth book in the series, infusing it with the personality of character after character as the emotional events reveal themselves to the listener. I have read the print books in this series and love to take the time to listen to the audio as it brings out more of the essence of their plight and their personalities.” ―Bitten By Books

Stevie Rae is the first-ever Red Vampyre High Priestess. She is still dealing with her emotions from breaking up with her boyfriend, Dallas, and her mixed feelings for Rephaim, the Raven Mocker that she shares an Imprint with. But the stress on Stevie Rae is beginning to show. So when a friend of their inner-circle dies, Stevie Rae makes the phone call which brings Zoey and Stark back to Tulsa. Though all know Neferet murdered their friend, no one has any proof and she has a solid alibi.
Rephaim, the son of Kalona, strives to keep his relationship with Stevie Rae from his father and Neferet. Torn between his respect for his father and his mixed feelings for Stevie Rae, Rephaim can neither betray his father, nor stop protecting this new friend. However, the Raven Mocker will soon be forced to choose between his immortal parent and the Red One. Until then, Rephaim will brainstorm for a way to remove Kalona's spirit from beneath Neferet's controlling thumb.
** TWO STARS! As with the previous book (Burned), little happens to move events along. As with what happened to Heath a couple of titles past, another character is culled from the series. Dallas, the rogue red fledglings, and Erik only have brief cameo parts in this installment of the series.Read more ›
Zoey does not want to return to the House of Nights. She has found sanctuary on the Isle of Skye and become friends with Queen Sgiach, who was thinking about opening up her island for new warriors. Queen Sgiach even offers Zoey her place when she eventually passes, this means leaving Zoey queen of the Isle of Skye. Zoey falls for the idea, as the island isn't affect by the modern world, and the darkness that reeks at her school. Especially now that Neferet is back to ruling the school. The Vampyre High Council allows it after Neferet publicly banishes Kalona from her side for killing Heath. Because of that Neferet is in debt to the darkness. To pay she must sacrifice an innocent that cannot be tainted by darkness. The innocent life she chooses, is one we all know and cry over, praying for it not to be true. This book has a lot of deaths, misery and terror. Zoey has to come back into the storm that is still brewing. With her goddess on her side, is it enough to overpower the darkness that has tainted the world around her?
P.C and her daughter Kristin are just past half way with this series. Eight out of twelve this has been one of the better ones lately. This book made up in death, and romance for what it lacked in characters. You never heard from the twins, and even Damien did not appear that often.Read more ›
AWAKENED starts the listener off right where BURNED ended. Zoey has returned from the Otherworld with Stark, but wishes to remain hidden on their island paradise. She refuses to return to Tulsa and her responsibilities there.
Back in Tulsa, the gang is eagerly planning a party celebrating Zoey's return to the living, when tragedy strikes one of Stevie Rae's fledglings. It's this tragedy that finally convinces Zoey to come home.
There is much going on in AWAKENED. Zoey and Stark discover their new love. Kalona and his raven-mocker son test their bonds to Neferet. Neferet weaves her deceit over the High Council. And Nyx - ever-mentioned but hardly seen - makes a rare appearance. Everything weaves together beautifully, only to end with the listener going, "I want more!"
YES! AWAKENED was once again narrated by Caitlin Davies. As I had said in my audio review of BURNED, I was frustrated that the narrators had changed frequently in the last few books in the series. But happily, Caitlin Davies has returned for the this installment. I believe it makes the novels flow more seamlessly when the voice reading the story remains constant. The narrator is able to maintain consistency with characterization that makes it easier for the listener to quickly jump back into a story that was left hanging months previously.
Ms. Davies seemed to have an even larger job this time with more voices and characterizations, though in reality, the players remained the same. Some of the supporting characters had larger roles in AWAKENED, thus requiring Ms. Davies to expand and build on her previous work. She does an amazing job capturing everyone in the story, and leaves the listener eagerly wanting even more from the HOUSE OF NIGHT.
