Bev has introduced me to language and practices I had learned to jeer out of fear. I had been conditioned to not only question the word prayer, but to mock it, even deride it. Over the years, with the exposure to leaders like and including Bev, I have learned to question organized religion but embrace and practice prayer, gratitude, visualization, mantras, reflection, and meditation. In this book Bev offers practical tips and tools - most helpful for me were the ten tips for the awakening woman. Awakening means awareness and realization, shedding our conditioning, and then evolving. As Bev has said in a recent workshop, “waking up, growing up, and stepping up”. Most impactful for me was learning about our “small self”. I realized I had been living in my small self - losing myself in roles, striving to prove my self-worth and fully defining my self-identity in these roles. When the role ends - you feel loss and failure. Bev helps us to truly understand our hierarchy of needs. Obviously we need to be safe and healthy, but just as importantly, we also need to start with a loving relationship with ourselves - cultivating a willingness to learn with the grace of humility and gratitude, rather than self-criticism. Then we can turn to truly loving relationships with others, and finally, we are best positioned to serve in our purpose. Bev guides us through this awakening, stimulating new insights and inviting us to grow. If you are searching, transitioning, struggling, or growing as a woman - this book is not only a valuable investment of your time, it is a reference resource to return to time and time again.
This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read and believe every woman would benefit greatly from reading it! The author touches the core, soul and issues that many women experience and writes in such a way that u feel immediate validation and I believe will set one on a new soul searching journey.
Since I began my walk through the “dark woods” a couple of years ago, I’ve made a frantic practice of reading the mystics and the monks, the psychologists and the spiritualists. And I’ve found wisdom and validation in them, and more questions than answers. But it wasn’t until reading this book that I saw a clear, achievable way out of this excruciating mess. By the brave act of laying out her own painful, highly relatable journey on paper, the author has given me a tangible picture of how the journey to wholeness begins and unfolds, and why it’s worth the work. Thank you, Bev, for your willingness to be vulnerable. Any woman lost in the dark woods and unsure of how to proceed MUST read this book. Take it from a fellow, currently lost soul looking for a way through—you WILL find hope here.
Ladies, if you want to read one book that will change your life forever, this is absolutely the one!! Bev courageously shares her own journey of how she was able to transform her life to be filled with meaning and purpose, which she felt she had lost along the way. She shares her real life struggles and experiences, and then gives you tools that will help you reconnect with your soul and live the life you were meant to live, and not the one that others expect you to live. This book helped me to gain the awareness and courage to really listen to my inner knowing and to take action to make some necessary changes in my life. Reading this book is like having a conversation with a friend who offers compassion, wisdom, vulnerability and the tools that will help you transform your life, if you choose to do the work. This book is a must read if you are a woman searching for a way to reconnect to your soul and your soul's purpose.
If you feel stuck or lost, that “something” is missing or needs to change in your life but you don’t know what that “something” is, this is a MUST READ. The author speaks to the reader as a friend; she talks about her own experiences and shares personal stories throughout the book that will resonate with every woman, regardless of her age. Bev Janisch has intellectually and spiritually waded through the muck and made sense of it all. In her kind and gentle way, she provides an easy-to-read guide that can change your life. She makes it clear: we must learn to pay attention to our Soul’s yearnings if we want to live a fulfilling life. I am SO excited to get started .....
This is a book for uncovering truths in a wonderful, gentle way. I was feeling stuck in my life. I was at a crossroads and very uncertain about my direction and this book became my road map! I will read it many times and highly recommend it to everyone. The author weaves her own story throughout in such a great way it left me leaning in wanting to learn more. She is all of us, what she went through is what we all go through. The information she shares of how to get out of the slump, the lost zone, is invaluable for life. This book is chock full of life-changing value and it will show you how to get back to yourself.
Bev lived her own “awakening,” while doing extensive research on a wide range of schools of thought, issues and practices - did our homework for us too - and narrowed it all down into an easy to read, compelling, personal story that gives us a path forward and practical ways that we can all get in better touch with our own souls and purpose - by becoming more aware through meditation and other suggestions. I am not a fan of “self help” guides but there’s so much in this book that I keep going back to the many pages and thoughts I underlined. Grateful for Bev and her wisdom.
I have been divorced now for many years but have carried the belief with me that my thoughts and feelings didn't count. Now, from reading Bev's well-written, heart-felt book about her soul awakening journey, I know now, this wasn't just me. It is a women's journey to find strength in the quietness of her soul. And as women, we are to listen to that voice until it becomes part of us again and then we can make compassionate changes for ourselves and those around us.
I loved this book. I loved how easy it was to immediately connect with the writer and felt as though she was sitting across the table from me, sipping tea as she told her story. Her journey towards mindfulness was paralleled in many ways to my own. By writing about her own fears, doubts and setbacks, it enabled me to feel acceptance of my own struggles and an appreciation that I am truly not alone.
The bonus of the summary and practice/reflections at the end of each chapter are a wonderful self-guide to further take the journey down the path of setting your soul free. Looking forward to her next book!
