What exactly makes a 500-700 dollar phone better than this one? It'll be the hardware, yes likely some faster processor, but I don't think it is worth $400-600 of difference to have a little bit more snappiness.
My area is web development and I own and am surrounded by Apple products. My wife has all the Apple i-products. Personally I have no need for a cellphone plan and was looking for an affordable smartphone (because I am a geek yes) and most of all an unlocked one, so I could use my prepaid sim card in it. By accident i bumped into BLU. I believe it is getting traction in the USA, but never heard of it before. Googled for phones, ended up on Amazon.com and my interest was ignited. Tried to see if they were available on amazon.ca. And yes, I am now a happy owner of a perfectly fine working BLU phone
I think this phone is perfect for those parents who can't or don't want to afford a contract or an expensive phone. Give your kid this $100 phone - a prepaid card and off you go!
In short, this BLU phone for around a $100, highly recommended!
Two issues with this phone:
1. the screen. The TFT screen is sensitive to your viewing angle, and even a 30 degree phone tilt toward or away from you renders the screen unreadable.
2. the main camera. It lacks autofocus. This basically guarantees that your selfies will be blurry. More seriously, it also means the camera is useless for smartphone functions such as barcode reading and mobile cheque deposit. Even at 5 megapixels, it could only read very big QR codes, and it could not focus enough to initialize Google Authenticator via QR code.
The phone is unlocked so you can take it into your local carrier and get a simcard and get set up. I use Wind, which is a decent option if you're in the local Wind area. If you live outside their network then you might want to try for one of the bigger cell carriers, like Telus or Rogers. I don't actually talk or even text a lot on this phone. Sometimes I find that I'll suddenly be in a roaming area when I'm at home, but I'm not sure if that's more of a Wind issue rather than a Blu Advance phone issue.
There are 2 simcard slots for the phone. Ideally you can pop in a local simcard for where you live, and then you move or travel somewhere else you can get a local simcard and put it in the other simcard slot. The simcards are really tricky to put in if you're doing it yourself. There's a metal bracket that's easily broken if you're not careful. I accidentally busted mine trying to get the simcard in the 2nd slot. I did a little adjusting and used some electrical tape to tape the metal bracket in and get the simcard. Hopefully it will stick and hopefully you can be a little more careful and get your simcard in without issue.Read more ›
- unable to run any application smoothly,
- always freezes on boot screen,
- if you are outside and there is sun, you can't see anything on the screen
- and so much more...
I lost 100$.

Good for the price. Of course don't expect a good screen for the price, but very good reception (GSM and wifi).Published 23 days ago by PRATI
difficult to use and sometimes without no reason i cannot open the phone
i just bought last Nov. and i think the battery is not working anymore
I don't think spending a $1000 over a cell phone is any worth it. This phone works great and its less than a $100....
Came with a case, charger and headphones.
The screen isn't very nice, but for $100 who's complaining? The camera and screen lock lag, but again... Read more

This is my first smart phone and I'm pleased with it. It does everything I need (except take high quality photos - the camera is just so-so) and the price was right. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Gemma
