Product Description

Product Description

Wacky adults, adult-like kids, fun grandparents.

Kevin Johnson is a sheltered boy who attends an exclusive Catholic school, even though he isn't Catholic. His interests are: girls, specifically Bonnie McGee, who he hasn’t worked up the nerve to ask out yet; martial arts, that he hasn't mastered yet; auto racing, that he hasn't been able to openly watch on television yet. His father, for some odd reason, has an aversion to the sport. Kevin and Bonnie end up going out, though, and he saves a child’s life on their first date. Bonnie is very impressed.

But instead of spending a blissful summer with Bonnie, Kevin is sent away to live with grandparents he barely knows. He's hoping to at least learn the secrets his parents have been keeping from him, but his grandparents were coerced into silence. The next door neighbor girl, however, has no qualms about discussing anything, and somehow knows all of the dirt on his family. The problem is, not only is she so far out of his league that it's embarrassing, she seems to enjoy embarrassing him.

This stand-alone episode of Gifted Racers was previously titled Baby Grand: The Beginning.

HASH(0x9d201bc4) out of 5 stars Baby Grand I: The Beginning Sept. 6 2012

I really enjoyed reading Baby Grand I: The Beginning because it had my interest from the "beginning". At first I thought it was about a piano but no about a car. It was about a family, two young people starting to learn about their families. You get to learn about the main character then part of his family he never knew about. Families are very similar and different at the same time. The main character is more mature, for his 14 years, how he thinks and grows. This is not about just him but his young second cousin, how they learn about family history and interests. A very very interesting book and you become interested in how they grow into family business. Not just a teen age romance novel! A very good book that I only read at bed time and finished in no time. A very good author, you can tell he knew a lot about racing, kept you interested!

HASH(0x9d1f26e4) out of 5 stars Good read for all ages and believeability of youth romance. June 12 2014

The development of the two main characters Kevin and Desiree, as well as the surrounding characters drew me to an emotional involvement. The anticipation of the future growth of the characters made my reading time longer and faster time to read after resting. The author did a remarkable job of meshing all the characters into believable co-existence. Fast reading, but made you read each line. Captured the emotions of youth into a believability to the reader and could not wait to read his next book.

HASH(0x9d1df36c) out of 5 stars I tried to like it... Oct. 9 2014

This was not a favorite of mine. Although I finished the book, I kept contemplating whether I should while I was reading it. It seemed that the young characters in the book spoke and acted like what an older person imagines a young person would speak and act like. I realize it is a fictional book, but I enjoy books that are more realistic and relatable. I really tried to get used to the voice in which the book was written, but I never did.
