Once again another gift to my favourite industry in Canada, the mortgage industry. I used to call him the Wayne Gretzky of the mortgage industry but after consideration I have to change that to I don't know what. The reason being that Wayne Gretzky was the greatest player but not a very good coach because he could not relate to players with less talent whereas Dustan is both.
He lays out a winning game plan that will allow any newbie (or veteran stuck in a rut) a clear path to achieving effective results full of integrity. He makes it clear that it is not an easy road, nor a get rich quick scheme, but a path that is going to be challenging but rewarding if followed. Your clients will benefit, you will benefit, your referral partners will benefit and your family will benefit. Win-Win-Win-Win.
If you are new to this industry or continually love to grow in this great profession it is easily a must read.

Dustan, thank you for making the time to put together the "Be The Better Broker" series. Volume 2 is a roadmap to kickstarting a mortgage business. This book is engaging, to the point, and filled with valuable information. Anyone who is a Mortgage Broker, or wants to be a Mortgage Broker, needs to read this book. I also thought many times that this book would apply to almost anyone with entrepreneurial aspirations. I heard it described as the CliffsNotes for Mortgage Brokering, and it definitely is. Dustan has dedicated his time to learn the ins and outs of building a successful mortgage business, and this book puts you on the fastest path to learn how to do the same. I have already successfully implemented a few of the methods Dustan outlines; one method is how he takes an application (such a time saver and borrowers are happy with how simple it makes the process), and the A-Z script has been a great tool to have in my back pocket. I look forward to continuing my education, from Dustan, when Volume 3 is released.

Be The Better Broker, Volume 2, serves as a valuable guide for mortgage brokers who are currently within their first few months in their career. Dustan Woodhouse is producing what could ultimately be considered the premier multi-volume manual for success in a complex and demanding industry (Volumes 3 and 4 still to come).

What is particularly powerful for readers is the personal anecdotes that shows the extreme challenges that a broker can experience. The various mistakes and mishaps described in the book prove to be some of the most valuable sections in my opinion.

I would surely recommend Volumes 1 & 2 to inexperienced and experienced brokers alike. A quick read, Be The Better Broker Vol. 2, can teach newcomers and remind longtime brokers of the early challenges and fundamentals that are associated with this career.

Food For A Broker's Soul

If you put a plate of food in front of a starving man he will devour it rapidly. It will be the best tasting thing he has ever eaten. He will have this same reaction whether the food is of poor quality and poorly made or containing the finest of ingredients and prepared by a gourmet chef to produce a dish of pure epicurean delight. Only later, if you serve him the same dish again, will his attitude change. It will either not taste nearly as good as the first time (i.e. the poorly made dish) or it will taste even better with each repeated eating since new flavours and subtleties will emerge.

I was a starving man when I first devoured Volume 1. I have since eaten it many times and each time the flavour grows and improves and a hitherto previously unknown spice emerges. Volume 1 was indeed an epicurean delight.

I was starving once again when I downloaded Volume 2 and began to devour it. I have just finished and my hunger is temporarily sated but I know that I will return to the table again and again. I am confident that the flavour will grow and improve each time. After all, this course was prepared by the same master chef who prepared previous Volume 1 course.

I am looking forward to future courses and my mouth is already craving the next delightful tastes.

Don't let the sub title fool you this should be read by anyone who wants to improve no matter how long they have been in the industry. Finally, this can be used as a guide for success in other industries by simply removing the mortgage brokering references. Looking forward to Volume 3.

Volume 2 is proving to be just what I need! I'm sure that over and over readers will say: “I wish I had this earlier!” Now, in my second year of Brokering I'm taking the optimistic stance of Volume 2 of "Eating my failure for breakfast."

In movies the second is usually not as good as the first. Not in this book series! Each is great on it’s own. A chronological guide to the Mortgage Brokering business. Instead of rehashing Volume 1 Dustan nails what the newbie needs to survive and thrive in the first 100 days. Filled with practical, well thought out and researched bit size chapters that leave you feeling complete at the end of a read.

I recommend this book to anyone who hopes to be or is a Mortgage Broker!
