Sourcing Direct & Giving Back
Throughout years of buying our beans direct, we've been lucky enough to get to know the rural coffee plantation farmers and their families. After learning that many of the children had to travel absurdly far distances for their education, we decided to bring education to the farm. The Bean Around the World School was established in 2008 where children on the Finca El Carrizal Plantation in Guatemala can spend their time learning, playing and being kids. Each purchase you make helps fund a child’s education and improves their quality of life. Now you can get good coffee and good karma all in one bag.
Not Your Average Bean
Not all coffee is created equal which is why we don’t mess around when it comes to quality. All of our beans are 100% Arabica with no added ingredients or preservatives. We only buy the highest quality beans on the market (the top 3% tier to be exact) to make sure what you’re drinking reflects what we believe in. The rich flavours of our coffee rely on nothing more than our artisanal roasting methods and high quality beans. Life’s complicated, your beans don’t have to be.

When I made the coffee the way I normally make all my coffee, meaning quantity of beans/cup, I found this coffee rather bitter and insipid (weak, no body, watery). I wanted to give it another chance following recommended brewing directions, 2tbsp/6oz cup, and although it carried the flavor through a lot more, I still found that it was on the bitter side, and not a lot of body. To be fair, I am more of a fan of medium to mild roasts, so if you're a fan of really dark roasts, you still might want to give this a try. For sure I have to give top marks for the freshness of the coffee, it was just glistening with oils from roasting (sign of freshness, and it smelled really good in the bag).
I was so impressed that this company stands behind its product and does the right thing.
UPDATE Feb 8 '17 - updated to 4 stars from 2.
The team at Bean Around the World reached out to me, convinced their product should have rated better. Suspecting that the bag I received had been compromised, they sent me a fresh bag. Right off, the bag smelled BETTER when I opened it, like how you expect fresh espresso beans to taste! The coffee no longer has that taint of Timmy's, but tastes properly robust.
