Product Description

After years of bad relationships and a cheating ex-fiancé, twenty-eight-year-old Mia Martinelli prefers healing her patients’ hearts on the Cardiac Care floor rather than risking having her heart broken again. But that all comes to a screeching halt when caring for the head roadie for Runaway Train puts her into the orbit of drummer and Latin Lover, AJ Resendiz. After a scorching weekend of steamy passion, Mia’s intention of getting out with her heart unscathed is challenged by the stud with the wicked sense of humor, especially when he wants to continue seeing her. But when the harsh reality of AJ’s hoard of female admirers sends her insecurities into overdrive, Mia bails, leaving him handcuffed to his bathroom shower.

AJ never imagined that after two weeks of the best sex and female companionship he’d ever experienced, he would need rescued by his band mates from his shower prison. Although he tries to forget the sensual brunette whose curves made his mouth water, AJ can’t get her out of his mind…or his heart. Months later when he finally seeks Mia for answers as to why she left, nothing could prepare him for their life-altering reunion.

Can AJ prove to Mia that regardless of the women after his body, his heart belongs only to her?

Really enjoyed the 1st book but very disappointed in this one the 1st half was Mia and AJ have sex, ok a couple of pages works but god it just went on and on I found myself skipping pages to get to the story, it got to the point I almost didn't continue reading , the only thing that kept me in the game as the last book had some twists so I held out hope which never really came.

This is a hot story, there's a lot of sex, maybe too much. But I didn't completely connect with the characters, in particular Mia this woman was far too judgemental and way too emotional. She looks for trouble. AJ was basically a good guy, quite honestly I wished he would dump Mia and all her emotional baggage. He was just the wrong guy for someone like her with her trust issues.

This was an okay book in this series. I like strong heroines, just not annoying ones. That sort of ruined the book for me. At the end of the day I want to be entertained not irritated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muy Caliente!! Oct. 22 2013

First off, I am a HUGE Runaway Train fan! I would follow those boys all over the county and scream as if they were the New Kids on the Block and work for free as their tour manager and number one fan (LOL) if I could. Jake stole my heart in Music of the Heart but AJ - he set my heart on fire!! Like SERIOUSLY!!! Mia and AJ are high combustible and let me just say that I will never be able to ride in a limo again without thinking about them!

AJ wasn't looking for a relationship or love, but when Mia walked into his life, there was this spark that he just didn't know existed in him. Mia had been hurt before by the guys in her life and she was looking for a little fun after 6 months of mourning her 3 year relationship that went down the tube. AJ and his smooth moves hit Mia like a hurricane and she was whipped into a frenzy that took her by surprise. But will AJ and Mia be able to let go of pasts that they can't change and be able to move forward?

I could not put this book down. I kept saying "just one more chapter" and before I knew it, it was 4am and my iPad had hit me in the face at least twice. I didn't care. Mia was spicy and was a force that AJ loved to tease and play with. They were the perfect match. AJ is HOT HOT MUY CALIENTE HOT!!! Boy, if I would have had an actual book instead of my eReader, I would have been fanning myself constantly. We still get to see the cast of Music of the Heart which I loved to see too! 5 STICKS Flying into the crowd! Loved it!

3.0 out of 5 stars This one is hard... Oct. 22 2013

I absolutely wanted to shout that I loved this book. There was witty banter, it was emotional and sexy and fun. I loved AJ. He was very funny and patient with Mia. But Mia, OMG. She drove me absolutely crazy, and not in a good way. For the book to be as long as it is, I didn't want to read about her rollercoaster emotions the entire time! I'm a woman, I know how we are and how sometimes we allow out insecurity to take over. But my goodness, the entire time she complained about her weight, her looks, other women. Constantly questioned whether she was good enough for AJ. Lucky for her, AJ was extremely patient with her. But it was annoying to me. I know we all have our flaws and insecurities but AJ did not give her one reason to doubt him, not one reason to make it seem as though he'd cheat on her. He was constantly begging her to just LISTEN for goodness sakes, instead of jumping to conclusions about everything. And even when she did allow him to explain things, she still overreacted. I understood her past but still, this was a nice sized story and I'd have liked for her to grow and change her thoughts just a little towards the end. I'm about 75% in right now and honestly if it weren't for AJ, I'd probably stop reading.

Otherwise, the story is actually really good. The other characters add depth as well. I just really am too annoyed with the heroine right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Steamy, and Emotional! I loved AJ and Mia! Oct. 16 2013
By K. Bias - Published on

"Don't fight it. Just feel."

AJ Resendiz the Latin drummer for Runaway Train is smokin' hot! He is a dirty talking, charismatic, determined, sex God. He is intense, sexy, funny, romantic, and likes to take control. I never realized how freakin' funny AJ was until this book since he was kind of overshadowed by Jake in Music of the Heart.

Mia has been burned in the worst possible way. She is skittish, closed off, in desperate need of an orgasm, and has difficulty resisting AJ's offer of mind blowing sex. She is really not fazed by his stardom. She is down to Earth, real, insecure, and has womanly curves.

Together they are seriously smoldering. Their chemistry is off the charts red hot! Their rapport is funny, flirty, and sexy. They play off each other very well. I loved how AJ accepted Mia and tried to make her feel beautiful even when she had self esteem issues or worried that she was not a stick thin Barbie Doll. He was so sweet, loving, patient, and I might have already mentioned this a time or and sexy!

"Just when I think all men are alike...You really are too good to be true, you know that?"
"It's a curse really."

But she is not ready to jump back on the commitment train. She is only looking for fun times and sex. But little does she know AJ has other ideas. Her past has scarred her and caused her to have serious trust issues. She is damaged, broken, and fearful. And she cannot handle all that he wants to give. Mia has layers of armor from her past that AJ has to chip away at. But she is also smart, sexy, funny and caring. But AJ bears the brunt of all the wrongs done to her by men in the past.

"Yeah, I see right through your little `knight in shining armor' routine. You think I'm broken, and by giving me a few moments of your precious time, you might be able to fix me. But trust me, you can't do s***, AJ! I'm not broken--I'm f***ing shattered with a thousand jagged pieces that will slice a perfect, pretty boy like you in two!"
"Why don't you let me be the judge of what I can or can't handle, okay?"

When you have a stubborn Latin American Male and an equally stubborn Italian woman there is bound to be drama. But trust issues and insecurities are hard to get past. It is a roller coaster of misunderstandings, battles for control, and drama that rivals a Spanish Novela. I alternated between being sympathetic and angry at Mia even though I understood her fears and where she was coming from. But I still liked her and I thought she and AJ were good together.

Even under my lips, I could feel the strong beat of his heart--one that was so amazingly kind and giving...
"In spite of all the joking and innuendo, you sure do know how to make a girl feel wanted and cared for."
"I'm glad you're finally realizing how magnificent I am both in and out of the bedroom."

All along I adored AJ. I mean seriously LOVED! I felt so bad for him at times. He knew what he wanted but all of her issues made it a big mess. He constantly surprised me and made me swoon. I loved him funny, loved him sexy, loved him sweet, and loved him bossy. But most of all I loved his vulnerable, caring, protective side that just wanted to give Mia the world. And seeing AJ with the various children in this story just totally melted my heart.

"You know, most people think I'm just this goofball who never takes anything seriously and lacks any emotional depth or sensitivity. But that's not true at all....I can feel your pain all the way across the table."

And Mia's best friend and co-worker Dee was hilarious! He was more interested in men than Mia was, and he was always there to encourage her, give her a hug, or a kick in the pants. He stole almost every scene he was in! I love the rapport of the band mates and their mates. They make such supportive pseudo-family that loves, supports, and tortures each other. And Mia fit in with them very well giving them even more ammunition to use against poor AJ.

It was quite a complicated journey with twists and turns. And I swear I am not sure how she does it, but by the end Katie had me laughing as I was tearing up from emotions at the same time. I enjoyed everything about this story. I think this one even surpassed Jake and Abby's book Music of the Heart(which is saying a lot). But I enjoyed seeing more of Jake and Abby in this one as well, and look forward to even more with them in the upcoming novella, Music of the Soul. And the bassist, Rhys..sigh...We get a tiny tease at his story in this one and Katie promises we will get more about him in the next novella, and I cannot wait to see where his story leads in his book Strings of the Heart!

It was great getting both AJ and Mia's points of view. We really needed to see into their thought processes since there was so much going on under the surface. And the way that Katie was able to tie in a character from another series was awesome! There were twists, turns, and surprises! I smiled, laughed, got mad, I shed a few tears, and I totally drooled over AJ. This was fun, flirty, passionate, emotional, heartbreaking, and sweet. The characters have burrowed themselves into my heart and I cannot wait for more in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Loved AJ...Mia not so much. Oct. 27 2013
By Becky Loves 2 Read - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
*ARC provided by author for an honest review*

Beat of the Heart is book two of the Runaway Train Series (Music of the Heart is book one). Each book can be read as a stand alone, although I would not suggest it. Not because of cliffhangers (there are none in this series!), but because characters you meet in book one are in this one as well. And I believe it would just give you a better understanding to have read their story.

Now, on to my review. First, let me start off by saying that you have not seen Katie Ashley's sexy side until you have read this book! She unleashed her inner bad girl with AJ and Mia's story and it was HOT! These two went at it like rabbits and seriously could not get enough of one another. So, be sure to have the fan ready because you are going to need a cool down on several occasions!

AJ and Mia's relationship was kind of a mixed bag for me. While I loved them together at times, there were also times I didn't see it. Mainly because of Mia and how crappy she treated AJ through out their "relationship". Yes, she had some baggage to deal with (who doesn't?!) but they way she continued to let it seep into what was starting out to be something great between her and AJ pissed me off!

What I did love was AJ's persistence in his pursuit of Mia. Even when it turned from just sex to something more, he was relentless. He knew what he was feeling was worth fighting for, even though Mia didn't want to see it that way. But one can only take so much before they have to ask themselves, is it worth it? How far is AJ willing to go to win Mia over and convince her he isn't like the guys from her past?

Well, you will just have to read to find out!

On a side note, the word douche was used 22 times in this book. IT. GOT. ON. MY. NERVES!! I am sure it is just me being picky but seriously, the word was a bit overused here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Loved AJ. Totally disliked Mia. Oct. 26 2013

The book had a good plot and and good characters (except for Mia). She was too whiny and insecure. She didn't grow and move past her insecurities until the very end. And if you ask me, that's just way too long. AJ was such a nice and loving guy and he didn't deserve most of the crap Mia put him through. This story could have been great. The hero and supporting characters are all wonderful, it just needed a better female lead. It does have steam and emotion, but if you're like me I wanted to throw my kindle during some of Mia's rants. It was so bad I found myself skimming paragraphs during her POV.
