***This novel is not a cliffhanger and can be read as a standalone.***
WARNING: This book is real, beautifully raw, and not for the faint of heart. It is the story of a young girl’s loss of innocence while growing up around a motorcycle club. It is not suitable for children under the age of seventeen due to language, sexual content, and intense subject matter. Based on true events.

I have tattooed that single word on more skin than I care to count. It elicits powerful thoughts and emotions for most people.
Loving. Caring.
Supportive. Togetherness.
But not for me. The word family means so much more.
Vicious. Harmful.
Dangerous. Corrupt.
You can’t run forever from the ones who love you.

I read a lot: about a book a day. I read a wide range of subject matter and quality. I am not a fan of motorcycle club books. Gratuitous violence with sex and drugs just doesn't do it for me.

Nicole Reed's latest includes a motorcycle club (MC). She manages to write about it without too much in the way of blood and guts. She focuses on Helen, the main character, and how life as part of the MC family affects her, follows her, and ultimately tries to destroy her. She's strong and intelligent--not well educated, but truly smart and takes her craft seriously. I loved reading about the artistry involved in tattooing.

It's a romance and there's a HEA. The writing is top notch, but this's a compelling read. It's sad and interesting and hopeful. Seriously great book. I've read Nicole Reed's other novels (and recommend Cake). This book is her best effort yet.

This was my first Nicole Reed book and what a roller coaster ride. Ms. Reed is a great writer and she creates such endearing yet flawed characters that you can’t help but connect to them - even when you know you shouldn’t.
I love MC romances and this story is a twist on the usual novel. While it certainly takes you inside the underbelly of the MC and lets you see the inner workings, it’s from a different lens. This time, the heroine wants nothing to do with the life and the club despite having her best friend, Holden, the future president, deeply in love with her. She’s a prisoner that takes her only chance to escape even though she has been marked as property of the club.
If you’re are looking for a riveting read with complex characters and a beautifully woven story of love, betrayal, lust and hate…this is it!!

I guess I must live in a different world then all those 5 star reviewers or maybe I have different life experience but this book had me annoyed the whole time. To say the wonderful Helen is naive doesn't cut it. She is completely lacking common sense and she is SO SELFISH. Her home life was crappy and then she loses her remaining family. Her lifelong friend Holden and his family immediatly take her and give her everything and the best of it. Is she grateful that she no longer has to deal with with a mean stepmom and dad who doesn't care and is also provided for very well. Nope. She doesn't like that it's from the the MC and because her dad sucked she doesn't like the club. You would also think that she would actually pick up on the clubs laws and dealings. Oh i heard them talking about different guns and the russians. Hmmm oh well must mean nothing. Once she sees what they actually do she acts so stunned and acts very childish. Oh and non stop lies to everyone. Hold tries to show her he loves her and wants to start a relationship more then just friends. She has no clue what he's saying and then when he says I need a cold shower she wonders what that was about. Thinks no way he likes me like that since she doesn't feel the same. Decides to act as though nothing happened so things will hopefully go back to how they were. Then proceeds to get dressed up and begs him to take her out to possibly run into her school crush. Then throughout their time she costantly rips his heart out by saying she'll never feel the same for him yet if he agrees to run away and give her the life she wants she'll give him all of her. She is always willing to have sex with him for the orgasms. Then last most wonderful part is when her stupidy gets her caught and he still does what he can to keep her alive. Tells her over and over I have to punish you enough to make the MC believe it and save both our lives. She agrees telling him she trusts him and gets it. He freakin does things during the punishment to try and show her he hates doing it and yet afterward is she thankful for his constant love, protection and loyalty to her. Nope she tells him she hates him for hurting her, don't ever touch her and wants nothing to with him and that he should have done something more to help keep her hidden. Oh and yes the ending. Does Hold the real hero get a happy ending. Nope he puts his life on the line so she can ride off into the sunset with another man.

HASH(0x9a77c420) out of 5 stars Hold on to the ones you <3 April 27 2014

What happens when everyone in the world you care about disappears? What happens when the only one that loves you continues to pull you into a world you hate? Helen grew up in Harmony, Florida, with her evil stepmother, dad, and sister. (No this isn’t a Disney fairytale!) Her dad along with her best friend Holden’s dad run the Hell’s Highwaymen MC. When Helen’s family leaves her, she has no choice but to stay with Holden, his family, and remain a MC. What happens when that world begins to smother you and you begin to hate the only person that loves you? This is exactly what happens to Helen, Hels, or should I say Keller.

Most MC books are about good girl falls for bad ass MC. Well, I’m here to tell ya, if you’re looking for that you better just keep looking because this book is deeper than a valley and so not that! Nicole Reed does a phenomenal job at giving insight into the real world of motorcycle clubs, but in doing so you grow to love the characters, their up bringing, and how much they care about one another.

Throughout this book we see the love that Holden shows for Helen even if I don’t agree with all of his actions, but when she becomes Keller to everyone else, she takes the freedom and runs with it.

Holden is her best friend, and he is deemed to be the VP of the MC. This is the only life he has known, and the only other thing he’s sure of his love for Helen. He is head over heels in love with her, but does she feel the same way? Holden is a guy that you can’t help but hold on to, and I’m going to leave it at that because I just <3 him!

Helen’s body is a timeline of important events in her live. Most people wouldn’t put the beautiful ink canvas together, but when Vin walks into the tattoo shop, her world changes. He asks for one simple date tattoo, and with that tattoo their world changes.

Vin walks into the tattoo parlor and isn’t who you’d expect to see getting a tattoo. He breaks Keller down, and she knows that time to move on is upon her. She knows they both have a hidden past, but is she willing to risk her past for a future?

Beautiful Ink will have you mad at the world, fighting for freedom, pulling for love, and having a person that holds you so close to his heart that he never lets go.

Beautiful Ink touched my heart and soul, and I will never be the same. A tattoo is something that some people get randomly others think about for years. I’m one of the think about for years kinda girls which is why I haven’t gotten one yet. Funny thing is I’ve been contemplating an idea for months, and this book just helped me confirm what my heart has been screaming. Thank you Nicole Reed for writing these beautiful words and being REAL! <3

HASH(0x9a77c660) out of 5 stars Team Holden May 19 2014

I just posted this as a response to someone else's review and then figured I'd add this as my full review of Beautiful Ink. Please read my whole post before down voting. :)

Here's my 2 cents: I feel that Holden truly, unconditionally loved Hels. She always said she loved him as a friend and brother, but I never saw evidence of that at any point in the story. It was always him comforting her, helping her, trying to make her happy. She strung him along and lied to him at every turn. I'm sure most of us can agree that by the time we were 15 years old, we understood when someone had such strong feelings for us. She should have told him from then that while she did love him as a friend, she wasn't IN LOVE with him and never would be. Instead she tells him she will be with him if he runs away with her, she sleeps with him, and she continually lies to him and leads him on.

Clearly this is a fantasy world and none of us would accept a situation in which we witnessed violence and murder IRL, but this is a smutty NA book, and this heroine grew up in the life and somehow had NO IDEA about ANYTHING. I found this frustrating, unrealistic and annoying.

I'm not saying she should have stayed in a place which made her so miserable, I just think she handled things very, very poorly and she continually betrayed the one man who put his life on the line several times to help her. She never showed one ounce of appreciation or any concern about his well-being. The author mentions that Hels cares for Hold, but it is never shown to us. She just has a few passing thoughts about it. As his so-called "friend" I would have expected some type of concern for him and I would have respected her more if she had.

Hold clearly wasn't perfect and of course his "revenge" on Hels had to be a big show in order to save his own butt from his MC, his life was on the line b/c he chose her over the MC by letting her go not once, but in the end TWICE. And I think we can all safely assume she would never even check back to see if he survived the wrath of the MC so she could run off and live her life with another man.

From just a reading enjoyment standpoint, the only parts of the book I really found interesting were the parts with Hold in them, and that's not a good sign for the love story if the "real hero", Vin fades to a background character for me. For all the reasons stated above, this book just didn't work for me and I regretfully give it 1 star.

I can honestly say I loved this book. Beautiful Ink tells the story of Helen, Hels, the daughter of an mc president, best friend to the vp's son and tattoo artist extraordinaire. Her life is not something of fairy tales and glitter, rainbows and unicorns, it's a life where the people she loves treat her like dirt or get killed they don't give her options in her life unless they chose them.

"Tattooing is more than a job, more than a hobby. It's an intimate, emotional and powerful thing to be marking someone for life. I am giving over a part of myself forever. In return, I am fully in control of my world and everything around me, if only for that small gap in time."

Helen really isn't given choices but one, the mc life or death. In being saved from an attacker she is made into something she never wants to be, a future old lady. She has many people to answer to, Holden, Sage, Wade, Sandman. Anyone who comes in contact with her is put at risk of dying. This kind of life she can't live, she knows she has to run but how can she do it. Help comes to her in the strangest ways. The twists in this book kept popping up when I least expected them. The book knocked my socks off!
There are so many things I want to say about this book but I want you to enjoy it as much as I did! Nicole you did it again, I give you a lot if credit for getting someone who doesn't like MC books to really enjoy one. It says a huge deal about your writing, you sucked me in and made me want to know more about what was going to happen.

HASH(0x9a77cbd0) out of 5 stars Dark & Beautiful - Best Nicole book yet. April 27 2014
By Ena May - Swoon Worthy Books - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This is the 4th book written by Nicole Reed and the 4th book of hers I have read. I must say it is by far her best work yet - such amazing growth in this author.

I have to say that yes, this is the best Nicole Reed book she has put out to date. I loved all her other books but Beautiful Ink takes the cake in my opinion. She has shown a different side to her writing then she has ever before. I was speechless when I was finished because I couldn’t wrap my mind around Nicole writing this book because it was so different than what she has given us in the past. The growth I saw in her as a writer made my heart happy for her.

When I was first digging into Beautiful Ink I thought I was in store for another wonderful biker MC book but Nicole surprised me because even though yes, there is a bike gang in this book, the story is so much more than that. The whole biker MC plays a small roll in this book but is very important to the storyline. I loved how she took a topic that is so widely written about but clearly made it her own and unique because it’s not about a bad boy biker at all, Beautiful Ink, is about a girl Keller who is trying to escape the past that has haunted her for just about ever. A past so dark and twisted that she is forever looking over her shoulder make sure her that the next step taken and the next breath exhaled will not be her last.

“Blood in and blood out,” he says, kissing my neck in between his words. “Your f___ing choice. But know this, it is forever now my blood that runs through your veins. And I will drown you in it, before I will let you escape me.”

Not only does Nicole delivery the suspense that I love so much in books but she gives me the hope that something beautiful will come out at the end. My heart was beating fast while reading this and goose bumps covered my skin. Beautiful Ink is raw and gritty. It’s dark and dangerous and at times downright disturbing but Nicole delivery’s it flawlessly and made me hang onto every word. Moments during the book you could find me looking all shocked and stunned because of things I never saw coming.

And at other times when Keller proved to be the strong character that I knew she would be and a kick butt woman that I admired I would be
shaking my head and smiling in approval knowing that I loved that character.

You will meet Hold who I had very mixed emotions about there were times when I found him drop dead sexy and wanted to ravage him and time when literally just his name on my lips made me want to vomit. His love for Keller runs deep but from what I pulled on from this story is his love wasn’t the right type of love. Decisions he made clearly showed that. I felt like he was 2 different people because of his lifestyle and upbringing and there was a side of him that had me swooning for him.

And a side that is so dark and twisted it would have me completely horrified of him and seriously wanting him to receive a good butt whoppin'.

You will also meet Vin, well the only thing I can say about Vin is he is dreamy, sexy, kind, and "I'd tap that."

Oh and he has a past too and knows more about Keller than she is aware of

Keller knows that she needs to escape that world, before that world brings her under and destroys her. But once you belong to something like that and you have seen the things that could get you killed it’s not that easy just to walk away.

What happens when the past you know will kill you catches up to you? Can you truly stay hidden forever and start a new life, finally find your something beautiful? Or will the past that has threaten to take you under for so long catch you and consume you to the point where there is no beautiful left to be found?

You need to get this book! It is by far one of the best books I have read to date. I cannot put it into words how proud I am of Nicole for spreading her wings and giving us something different; something that made me feel so many different emotions at one time. I cannot wait for more of this series – she has me hooked.

Final words about Beautiful Ink and the masterpiece that Nicole gave me it was freaking amazing! Can't wait for more! Not cliffhanger to this book which I loved!
