Katrina Mahoney lives in Western Sydney, Australia. She has a very full life attending university to study a law degree, training for triathlons and now she is working part time as well. She couldn't possibly find time for a relationship, especially after her last one ended so catastrophically.

Right now she is content focusing on work, study and training while hanging out with her best friend David Taylor, a womaniser with a heart of gold that would do anything for Katrina – except watch her get hurt again.

That is, until the dashing Elliot Roberts, a junior solicitor from her work, shows an interest in her despite their office’s ‘No Dating’ policy.

Katrina struggles with following her heart or following her mind and has trouble seeing where her heart truly lies in this gripping romantic drama.

This book isn't awful, the writing isn't either, but it was just ok. Sort of boring really, and I just couldn't connect with the characters. It just seems to be missing something, no real heart to it.

HASH(0x9f53b95c) out of 5 stars Totally unbelievable characters and really bad plot points May 7 2013
By Gadget Girl - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
SPOILER ALERT - Do not read if you don't want to know major plot points and how the story ends. I can't believe this novel has any good reviews. I often wonder with relatively new/unknown authors, if all of her friends are maybe writing positive reviews. There are so many reasons why this novel sucked. Number one: there is no such thing as a STRONG HEROINE who lets her boyfriend get away with putting her through a glass window, beating her up more afterwards, and "possibly" attempting to rape her AFTER he beats up her best friend, and DOESN'T PRESS CHARGES because he agrees to be out of the apartment when she picks up her things??? Are you fricking kidding me? Seriously. And then, when she runs into him later at a bar, she agrees to have a drink with him and his enabling friends, as if he didn't put her in the hospital and leave her scarred (literally) for life? AND THEN, when he beats up her best friend again, does she finally press charges? Does she realize that he will inevitably do this to another girl and part of the blame is on her for letting him go scot free? NO. She tells him to leave her and her friends alone forever. That'll learn him! I don't take abuse against women lightly, and it should never be used as some kind of stupid plot point in a way that indicates that anything but pressing charges and getting a violent criminal off the street is the answer. And best yet, does her best friend finally press charges? Nope. He's just as stupid as she is. STUPID STUPID STUPID.

But beyond that major issue, there are two others with Kristina. She has a great best friend, loving family, goes to "uni" to become a lawyer while working part-time in a law firm AND is training for triathalons. And yet she drinks like a soriority girl - gets drunk every weekend and has sex in public places. Have you ever met someone serious about a sport, their future/career who drinks like that or who exposes themselves to indecency charges? I haven't. It just doesn't jibe. She lives with her parents and has sex on the dance floor of a club in front of a large crowd. PLEASE. Finally, the most unconvincing aspect of this story was the "switch" of love interests. Her best friend, David, who she has known forever, and they both have been good friends through numerous relationships/sexual escapades with others, NEVER feeling anything more than friendship. All of the sudden, he decides he loves her. And then, even more silly, she realizes she's loved him all along, and she only had mind-blowing sex with that guy a club, in a car, over and over again for weeks...well, she only did that because she really loved David all along. Oh, please.

Honestly, there is absolutely nothing realistic, reasonable or plausible in this novel. It's offensive in its dismissal of violence against women, but beyond that, it's just completely unbelievable. I would say don't waste your money, but I got this for free on Kindle, so I will say don't waste your time.

HASH(0x9ecf0900) out of 5 stars A beautiful book! Dec 29 2012

I absolutely loved this book. I loved how strong of a character Katrina was, I loved David and Elliot, and the ending!

I am not one to read books with weak female characters. I hate the wishy-washy or insta-love types so Katrina was right up my alley. Not only was she physically strong, but she was mentally strong. She said what she wanted to, even though at times she probably shouldn't have ;). And even when she was emotional, I felt like it was deserved. :(

David was the ultimate guy best friend. I loved how he saved her in the beginning. It absolutely killed me when thing went south! Elliot is fabulous but David is superb! Every girl should have a David in their lives. :)

The plot was perfect. Even though I kept switching teams (Elliot or David) I was very happy with the end results. Nothing was forced and the book felt like it unfolded in a fashion that was real and not fake. The only thing I would have changed about the book was seeing Beth or Bianca get beat at their own game more. I loved when Katrina would put them in their place!

This is a great short read that I would recommend to anyone over 18!

HASH(0x9ecf08c4) out of 5 stars Completely torn Jan. 6 2013

Well shoot, I am very torn on this book. On one hand, I LOVED it, while on the other I was very disappointed and let down by it. I loved it because the passion between Elliot and Katrina was great! They seemed so completely made for each other and he seemed to be so completely in love with her the whole time. I was disappointed by it for that reason too. Why couldn't Elliot have gotten the HEA?? I really felt for him, and while it was completely clear even from the book blurb that David was in love with Katrina I wasn't his biggest fan because of the Beth situation. He could have tried to move on with someone neutral, not someone who he knew didn't get along with his best friend, and supposed woman he loved. I just wish there had been something more to Elliot to make me more okay with the fact that she didn't choose him. Usually I am all about the guy chasing after the girl, but she didn't even try to talk to him, and I just wonder if that would have been enough to fix them and have him open his eyes quicker.

I really am just torn between what my overall feeling was. If she or Elliot had managed to fix things, then this would unquestionably be a 5 star book, but because of the choices the author did make, I just can't give it that rating, and while I feel like 3 stars is a little too harsh of a punishment to the story, I don't think I can justify 4 stars. So where does that leave me?? I just don't know. I have never had such a difficult time rating a book before

HASH(0x9ecc97d4) out of 5 stars Beautiful!!! Jan. 23 2013

I received this book for an honest review!

I read this book so fast and i am sad that it had to end. This is a story about Katrina who is trying to move on with her life from her ex-boyfriend Christopher. It is very hard for her to find a boyfriend due to her best friend David all the guys get jealous of him. When Katrina gets a job at a law office she meets Elliot who never pays attention to any of the girls. Well one day Trina goes for a run on lunch break and runs into Elliot where they start to get to know each other. One thing lead to another and they ended up falling in love. That is when everything becomes a struggle.

I could not put this book down i was in contact with the Author the whole time. Thank Lilliana for dealing with me LOL. This was a Beautiful book i was kinda sad that this story had to end. I would really like to get Elliot story on how he felt about everything and how he managed with all his Struggle.

HASH(0x9ecbc2ac) out of 5 stars A wasted investment into characters with no payoff May 19 2013
By AvidReader - Published on

I needed to ponder this before I was able to post a review. I had to sit and think about the characters, how they behaved, interacted, how they were presented, what they said in certain situations and then the outcome.

Most of this book was fairly consistent...UNTIL THE END. None of what happened in the end even made sense. I feel I wasted almost an entire book investing in characters who not only threw caution to the wind, but laughed in the face of authority to sneak around, spend time together, develop a relationship and fall in love only to have the one who initiated it and put the most on the line to just cease contact and walk away without so much as a "Go ₣***✂ yourself." This ending made ZERO sense to the way the characters were presented and behaved most of this book.

Given the past that Katrina went through, it also made zero sense that the other man in her life would make a play so much later in the game, especially since he did not seem all that altered before. He only seemed to take up issue with who she dated once he seemed to think that Katrina was happy, but even still he went about his life spiting her, doing his thing and leaving her at a bar to get a piece.

I never once believed in the end that Katrina's feelings for the one were not real, nor did I feel her feelings for the other were real. Again, it made ZERO sense that after all the time they had been friends she would out of the blue care what he did out of jealously. The relationship she ended up with seemed more out of convenience than actual love, and this book took a dive for me when after a few weeks or so after the confrontation at the Christmas party, when supposedly things were put out there to force one to reevaluate the situation, that there wasn't a complete change, an apology and trying to right the wrong and repair the actual believable relationship.

None of this made any sense to me, and the epilogue even less so. It was clear that there was still something there and the fact that so much time later she was still with the "comfortable, reliable shoe" just showed me how much easier it was for her to move on to a security net because she was too much of a coward to let go, take a risk and hope the one she truly wanted to take the chance on would come around and catch her.

So insanely inconsistent and unrealistic. After the trauma she went through, to allow herself to let her guard down to try a relationship only to be like "oops, that wasn't real" is ridiculous. I feel like I spent too much time invested in a couple that turned out to play a joke on me...I found this a good read until the end, then it was over for me. I am still shaking my head and not in a good way.
