Nicolas Puig est anthropologue, chargé de recherches à l'Institut de Recherche pour le Développement. Il s'attache à la description et l'analyse des sociétés citadines dans les villes des pays du Sud. Il a effectué une longue enquête sur les recompositions territoriales et sociales affectant l'espace social du Sud tunisien et notamment la ville de Tozeur. Il conduit actuellement un travail sur les musiciens populaires dans la ville du Caire en relation avec l'évolution de l'organisation citadine
