Firewire was purchased to extract media from a sony camera/camcorder and onto laptop, and the firewire worked fine. After a short time, I purchased a more up to date camera/camcorder that takes MMC. Firewire is no longer required. Hope this note helps.

The cable appears to be fine, but alas, I really needed a 4pin-to-4pin. By the time I figured that out, it was too late to return.
