A nice and easy read. An Unexpectedly well thought plot considering it is historical romance. Would recommend to anyone that enjoys this genre.

HASH(0xa05faec4) out of 5 stars This really makes me angry! Jan. 28 2015

No ending. This book was written with the sole purpose in mind to have to buy the next book in the installment. The story languishes on and on. I thought, well its short so I will finish it and not look to this author again. Surprise! No ending. What a waste of time. One reviewer said fast moving. I have to wonder if we were reading the same book.

HASH(0xa0ae312c) out of 5 stars Good writing, but cliffhanger ending Jan. 22 2015

The writing is good, the story engaging. My attention to the fact that it is a serial was lacking, so I ended up being annoyed with the ending, which is my own fault and not the author's who clearly warned us. However, I do believe the author would be better served, if not financially, at least by fans, to have one or two larger books and not these cliffhangers. Even though I like her writing and the storyline, I will not, on principle, buy any of the other books because it feels like readers are being manipulated and toyed with.

I truly dislike half finished books masquerading as sequels. My dislike for these shenanigans overrides any enjoyment of the storyline

HASH(0xa0ae33e4) out of 5 stars Belle of moving Dec 16 2014
By Kindle Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I was looking forward to reading this book. It has two of my favorite things. First it is a historical romance and then it was written about one of my most interesting times in history, the Civil War. The book started strong and never stopped it's intensity until the last page. The story revolves around a prominent southern family, the Montgomery clan. Their southern roots ran strong and true. The story centers around two of them. Wade Montgomery who is the heir apparent of the family due to death of his older brother Percival. But not only did he inherit the plantation, Magnolia Bluffs, but also Percival's fiancé, Clarissa. To say that Wade is thrilled to be chosen to now wed Clarissa would be far from the truth. He is involved with another southern belle, Josephine, who he has promised marriage. Now enter the picture his cousin Cullen Symthe, who has raised with Wade as a brother and has a strong and deep love for his southern heritage. But Cullen is not considered a southern gentleman, his family now is Philadelphia and that makes him a "Yankee". Cullen is torn between his love of the south but not of it's current political stance. He doesn't believe in slavery and succession;which if you know anything about southerners at this time in history is not the most popular opinions to have. But he loves his family and offers to help Wade with his pre-martial problems. Wade realizes his duty is to marry Clarissa; but he also cares for Josephine. Cullen offers to meet with Josephine to clarify the situation for her. When Cullen meets Josephine he is immediately drawn to her. Thus starts the crux of the book's story.
The books runs at a very fast pace with a lot of undercurrents and back stories. This is one of my negative points with the book. It was as if the author only had so many words that she could write and tried to get everything in the book she wanted within these confines. It was a great story, I enjoyed it but it just seemed rushed at certain times. I think the author needed to expand on some of the situations that were happening in the book. I even found myself going back pages to see if I had missed something. I don't know if Ms. Hines felt that if the book was too long it would lose it appeal; but in this case it, I feel, was necessary. This is why I gave the book four stars instead of five. Another thing I didn't like was the way the book just stopped. I know it is book one of a series but as I said it was a fast running book and then it just stopped. But it has me hooked now and I will definitely be looking for the next book in the series. Would I recommend the book; yes I would. I enjoyed the story and it is worth your time.

I was provided with a free copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

this book was a nicely written book a little love mystery and kept you interested. this is first time i have read her books and was a little disappointed in ending but hopefully the rest of series will fill in the holes. the language was good and not rough like some books. gave you enough of a hint of what was going on with out being out of line even a teenager could read it. was interesting the history details leading up to civil war and how the families entertwined . the ending surprised me as most end up happily ever after. this had a lot of twists and turns at the end. difently a good read.
