Product Description

I thought I was done.
my End
I couldn’t take my eyes off her as the bullet tore through me, leaving me with nothing but the hope that I had done enough to save her. The darkness tried to engulf me—to brand me as its own and drag me to my fate.
my Darkness
Waking to see her tear-stained face above me was enough to make my heart stutter. I was alive and free from that place—but not from the toll it had taken on my mind and body.
my Strength
My story should have ended, but one woman kept standing in the way of that. The only way I could have her was to find a way to put the darkness to rest.

This book is a dark romance intended for adult readers 18+ only. Not intended for those easily offended by dark subject matter.

Bend, Don't Break offers an alternative POV on some events in Irrevocable, and continues with an all new storyline.

When I first heard about this book coming out, I was so freakin excited. I devoured Irrevocable, loved every second of it and was sad when I finished it - it was one of those books I finished and immediately wanted to re-read. So to learn that a continuation of Rose and James’s story was on its way, nothing could have made me happier. Being offered the chance to once again review one of Skye’s books, well I count myself lucky. Her work is nothing short of genius, and delving back into the nightmare world of sex trafficking, dark passion and illicit desires reminded of just how skillful of a writer she really is. In Bend Don’t Break, we are welcomed into James’s POV, which is something I loved. I often wondered what went through his mind while working at the retreat, and the answers were finally at my fingertips.

I’d be utterly convinced that I’m guaranteed a spot in the deepest pit of Hell if I wasn’t holding onto the slim hope that the time I’ve already spent there was enough to burn away my sins

James is one of the good guys. But masquerading as a criminal for so long, and not just any criminal - a criminal whose survival was based on effortlessly pulling off the illusion of being a sadistic monster, well that can take a toll on a person. Finally free from the clutches of an evil empire, he’s forced to face all that transpired, and all that he had to do to regain his freedom and bring down the leaders of a despicable human slave ring. I thought that Skye did a remarkable job portraying his inner turmoil, his struggle to reinvent himself back into the man he left behind when he went undercover. Being separated from Rose so soon after experiencing what they did together - drives him well, bananas.

HASH(0x9bb44660) out of 5 stars Sorry, this isn't really a 'Book 2' for me March 6 2015
By jzozo - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I am disappointed that this book was described in one of the reviews as 'picking up where Irrevocable left off'. That information is incorrect. The first 100 pages or so summarizes the first book, from James POV. It was interesting but repetitive. The 4 months between the end of the first book and it's epilogue is what takes place here in book 2. The epilogue is also rehashed in James POV with some additional scenes. I guess if the book had been free or $0.99 it would have been acceptable but paying $3.99 to get a second hand story with some of drama and sex scenes wasn't my idea of a book 2. I do agree that it is in your best interest to read book 1 to get all the details of the story but don't waste your money on book 2. You get a HEA in Book 1 and you get the same HEA in Book 2, just from a different perspective and with a few steamier details.

~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads Review Team~

You must read Irrevocable before reading Bend, Don’t Break. I loved Irrevocable, I thought about that book for days, even weeks after reading it. I was not disappointed with Bend, Don’t Break either. This book is James point of view and it picks up at the end of Irrevocable. I loved reading things from his point of view; it shed new light on some things. Rose and James have so much to work on recovering from their time at the Retreat, this book is filled with every emotion and it is an amazing read. I don’t want to give away any part of the story but if you read Irrevocable you must read this book, it was just as good if not better. I really hope that we will get a book about Trent next, he was such a great supporting character and he needs his story told.

Characters: The characters were well written and believable.

Sex: yes

Religious: no

Would I recommend to others: yes

More than one book in the series: yes

Genre: Dark/Romance/Thriller

Would I read more by this author: yes

HASH(0xa28c4384) out of 5 stars LOVE THIS BOOK Nov. 28 2014
By T London - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This is one of those rare times that I can say a second book in a series does more good than just carry on with the plot. I swear it would send the readers running to the first book Irrevocable to find the whole story between James and Rose, if someone had just started with Bend Don’t Break. For those who like me have read the first book, this answered some lingering questions and gave me some closure to the story. This story is intense and powerful. Darkness looms over these two characters and traumatic events seemed to have guided their way for the last year.

Bend Don’t Break is James voice, his part of the story that was not offered to us in the first book. It was so easy to forget he wasn’t the bad guy, now we can see the turmoil that was brewing in him when he was forced to treat Rose like he did at the Retreat. All he did was to protect her, gather his evidence and try to establish a “normal” life afterwards.

I can’t even begin to tell you about this story in detail, just trust me when I say you need to read it and experience it but be prepared for the after effects to stay with you for a long time. I love the dark genre books and this story quickly became among my top ten. Bend Don’t Break starts when James is in the hospital after the episode at the Retreat. He wants to see Rose but isn’t allowed to for a month. The author takes that moment in the first few pages to begin flashing back to his time at the retreat when he finds Rose. She reminds us of events that we had already seen but with a brand new light since we are seeing it from James point of view.

We follow the progression to when he gets to see her and the part that touched my heart the most was when she admitted, if she was to give up her identity of Silver, she would be giving up any connection she had to James. His identity during the assignment was Krik and he was struggling to allow Kirk to die like it was planned with the agency. Melted my heart to see how much she still needed him as things unfolded and danger lurked again for them. Later during the story Rose is going to want to fight against the enemy and show that she is the same strong woman she found herself to be while being held captive. This was some intense reading for me as I watched them fight for freedom of the past once again.

They both struggled with the nightmares and memories of that time but James had to deal with the guilt. Who he portrayed himself to be for that job was nothing like the real him, but yet it came so easy to fit in with the criminals. Rose could have never believed she had it in her to survive such an ordeal, but not only did she survive, she found a raw courage in her soul and a love for her heart.

Powerful, intense, suspenseful and closure are the top four words I would use for this book. I am so impressed with this author I have already checked to see what is next from her that I can read. She gave us a chance to let our emotions go and our mind fly with these books. She took us to see the darkest of evil and the purest of love while taking us on each step in the process. I felt so bad for Rose in the first book, now my heart breaks for what James experienced. If you love dark reads, you MUST put this series on your list to be read. Grab the tissues and blanket and settle in for an emotional and epic ride.

HASH(0x9b103e40) out of 5 stars More Danger, More Revelations, More Heat - MORE EVERYTHING! Loved this book. Nov. 25 2014

I thought that Skye did a remarkable job portraying his inner turmoil, his struggle to reinvent himself back into the man he left behind when he went undercover. Being separated from Rose so soon after experiencing what they did together - drives him well, bananas. His instinct is to protect, and more than anything he wants her back at his side. Fear of rejection, fear of her safety has him keeping his distance and inflicting misery on the both of them.

“I want you - but I’m afraid that I just want you to take the pain away.”

Rose is the most fearless, feisty female that I’ve read. I love that about her, her spirit and courage just amazed me. Even when faced with the most impossible situation, she still fought back and somehow managed to find something special in an unthinkable environment. I enjoyed seeing her character more outside the Retreat, and learning more about her life and her family. Her connection with James remained, and that thrilled me - as they have some of the hottest scenes imaginable. Like holy mother of everything...not all the things James learned on the inside of that organization were bad, he definitely picked up some scorching hot tricks. I had a bit of trouble at times, as it did take quite some time before the two reunited, but as soon as they were - the connection was re-inforced and my love for these two characters was validated.

“I wanted to do this myself. Sometimes a girl wants to be her own knight in shining armor.”

This book is a continuation of Irrevocable, it can’t be read as a standalone - getting this glimpse into how things transpired after their release from the Retreat, it was something I really enjoyed. Bend Don’t Break is filled with more danger, more revelations and more heat. Can you handle it? Grab a copy today to find out.

HASH(0x9b417354) out of 5 stars Remarkable Sequel!!! Nov. 17 2014
By K A Street - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
First of, you need to read Irrevocable before Bend, Don't Break (Irrevocable can be read as a standalone). That said, this was a remarkable sequel. The pertinent scenes from Irrevocable needed to understand this book and shock my memory were presented as flashbacks, but in James POV.

James is an undercover detective who lost a lot of himself in a recent assignment. He was acting the part of master and sadist within a sexual "retreat" where women were held as sex slaves. His plans to take down the entire organization were almost thwarted by the appearance of Rose. After the dramatic showdown in the end of Irrevocable, how could either of these two be the same? After being shot, James is hidden away for protection and makes a pact to stay away from Rose for one month. That can't stop his flashbacks and aching heart. James wants only safety and normalcy for Rose.

"I wanted...I wanted you to be able to go back to normal." ~James
"There is no normal." ~Rose

Rose and James both struggle with nightmares and flashbacks. They strive to move on, but the past struggles seem to follow them. When James gets pulled back into the case after some of the freed slaves disappeared or were found dead, both he and Rose are threatened. James put her at risk once, and this time wants to protect her from outside powers, but also from himself. In time, he learns they are meant to be and what they went through has made them stronger.

"Most people see the good, the facade people want them to see. But you've seen each other at your worst."

I loved this sequel. It filled in so many holes from James POV and got us to the HEA I wanted for them both. If you loved Irrevocable, this is a must read!
