Besides the canning my wife does, I have a few different uses where these work great.
We freeze dry various foods and these are a great way to store the end product. Once the fruit/veggies/chilli/yogurt/or whatever has been freeze dried, we can place it in the jars, slip on the lid and with a FoodSaver attachment draw out the air which makes the contents last even longer. The seal on these is excellent for holding a vacuum that goes beyond what you get when canning, that vacuum as the jar cools you get that pop as the lid gets sucked down.
We also keep bees and end up selling honey. We discovered that these jars once filled to 4mm from the top hold 600 grams. This makes it easy to fill and get the same amount into every jar. And, as any real honey direct from a hive will do, when it crystalizes the mouth of these jars is large enough that the honey can be extracted with a knife or spoon without a lot of effort and every last bit can be got at. Allow me to explain what I mean. Much of the honey sold in stores these days is mixed with offshore honey but still sold as Canadian because, well because it does contains some Canadian honey. It’s a loop hole the government hasn’t closed. This honey is then filtered and often treated in various ways. The end result is processed honey that has lost much of its healthy properties but it stays liquid for a verrrrrry long time.
