"The dark, dog-eat-dog world is fully realized, the colorful cast established and grounded, and the pace never lets up---making for Rocha's strongest book so far." ---RT Book Reviews

Product Description

Book Three of the BEYOND series, and winner of a 2013 RT Reviewer's Choice Award.

A woman with no future...

Live fast, die young--anything else is a fantasy for Six. She's endured the worst the sectors had to throw at her, but falling in with Dallas O'Kane's Sector Four gang lands her in a whole new world of danger. They're completely open about everything, including their sexuality--but she hasn't survived this long by making herself vulnerable. Especially not to men as dominant as Brendan Donnelly.

A man without a past...

Bren is a killer, trained in Eden and thrown to the sectors. His one outlet is pain, in the cage and in the bedroom, and emotion is a luxury he can't afford--until he meets Six. Protecting her soothes him, but it isn't enough. Her hunger for touch sparks a journey of erotic discovery where anything goes--voyeurism, flogging, rough sex. He has only one rule: he won't share her.

In Bren's arms, Six is finally free to let go. But his obsession with the man who made him a monster could destroy the fragile connection they've forged, and cost him the one thing that makes him feel human--her love.

A very good sequel to the first two... Can't wait to read the next one. Even though there is no cliff hanger per se, each book is part of a bigger story about the O'Kane gang in itself.

Won the book and was hooked from the first page. Fast paced story with lots of action, humour and HEAT. Loved the characters, bad boy heroes with heart and strong likeable women what more could you ask for? Had to go back and buy the first two books in the series and will be waiting for February. :)

HASH(0x9cbed414) out of 5 stars Defining what erotica should be Aug. 23 2013
By Carrie B - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
First reviewed at Red Hot Books

When the first book, Beyond Pain, was recommended to me as dystopian erotica, I was very skeptical. My first thoughts were: it's not in my normal wheelhouse of what I usually read and what the hell is dystopian erotica anyway? However, because so many bloggers and authors whose opinions I trust were raving, I decided to take a chance. I am so glad I did because this series is defining what erotica should be: a compelling story interwoven with an off the charts sexual narrative. If you haven't started this series yet, go grab Beyond Shame.

Dallas O'Kane has taken over Sector 3, but it's still a mess. Things are starting to move fast and Dallas wants his right hand on the pulse. Dallas wants Bren to take Six with him in hopes that her knowledge will help to foster goodwill and help get the sector under control.

Readers first met Six when she was rescued from Trent Wilson, the cruel leader of Sector 3, by the O'Kane gang. Bren saw that Six was a victim and took her under his wing. Even though there was an immediate connection, he's had to play it slow as Six heals emotionally from years of abuse.

She was raised on the Farms, kidnapped by human traffickers only to fall prey to Trent Wilson's false promises. Six behaves more like a chained and whipped dog than a cowering victim; her guard is constantly up waiting for the next blow. Previous to Bren, the only kindness she's experienced is some vague memories of her mother brushing her hair. Six is determined, fierce and an all-around badass (Side note: She really reminds me of Xhex from BDB) all the way through the book. She doesn't wimp out after hooking up with Bren, in fact, she gets even stronger. It's a beautiful journey to watch Six come to believe and trust not only Bren, but the entire O'Kane gang.

As they are doing their work in Sector 3, they begin to open up to each other. We get a little more story on the man responsible for Bren's downfall from Eden's military police and the man responsible for framing Bren.

Of course the sex is NUCLEAR hot. Kit Rocha writes sex scenes that are sinuous and stealthy in the midst of their decadence. Bren & Six are a one to one couple, unlike most of the O'Kane gang, but Six's voyeuristic inclinations result in one specific scene that had me actually fanning my face. Bren's kink is pain. Honestly, there's not that much of it. After explaining in detail how he discovered this about himself, there's only one other BDSM scene.

There are check-ins with most of the other O'Kane members. It's awesome to see Dallas and Lex successfully working together as "head" of the gang while still sweet on each other. There is more progress on the Ace/Rachel/Cruz storyline - the next book. Maddox has some chapters and the jester hints at the pain underneath.

This book is definitely heavier on the plot than the previous books. Rocha has created a gritty tough world and filled it with raw characters who find acceptance within a group of misfits; misfits who just so happen to also have insanely hot sex. I could not ask for anything more in a book. Go read now.

HASH(0x9cbed468) out of 5 stars Best Book I've Read All Year Aug. 24 2013
By cosmogirl7481 - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Overall, Beyond Pain exceeded all expectations I had for it. As I was reading, I kept thinking, it can't get any better than this. But then, it just would. With each page and every chapter that moved the plot forward, I found myself more engrossed in the story, more invested in the characters, and ultimately, I was completely submerged in this fascinating, original world the authors created. I don't give 5 star reviews very often. But I would give this 20 stars if I could. It's one of those books that leaves you completely satisfied and spent, but at the same time, you just know that nothing else you'll read for a while will live up to it. Book hangovers are so bittersweet.

Bren was amazing. Maybe it was because he was so layered. He was damaged, but in truth, all of the heroes in this series are damaged in some way. It was just the way he handled the pain in his past, channeled it, and used it because he realized he needed it. Not because he was broken and felt the need to be punished, but because he wanted it.

There has always been this steely quiet about him - this silence that seemed lethal. But the amazing thing was that with Six - even from the beginning - it felt like more. He was protective of her and attuned to her in a way that transcended the obvious sexual attraction they both felt. And my favorite thing about him was that he was so patient. Like, even though he didn't think he deserved it, he knew waiting for her was the best thing. Not just for her, but for both of them. Gah! I get all flaily just thinking about it.

Six was wonderful. She was so broken, but not in a way that made her weak. In fact, it was just the opposite. It made her strong. It made her the kind of character, the kind of woman who fought back. And that just made my life.

But for all her hard edges, she was tender in a million different ways. Especially with Bren, but with everyone else, too. I loved the tiny ways in which she moved forward with him. The little ways that she let him in. And at the same time, through her, we let him in as well.

Plot wise, this one was the best for me. With each book, I feel like we're getting more, seeing more. And the true test for me is when I don't feel the need to skim. Every word seems important. I don't want to miss anything. And that's a credit to the authors. Everything that happens is so dependent on everything else in the story. There's no filler, no unnecessary words. I'm not only immersed in the main characters, but everyone else, too. The established characters are built upon; the new characters are introduced and developed in a way that makes me want to know more.

HASH(0x9cbed8a0) out of 5 stars Beyond book 3 Aug. 24 2013
By Sarah (Feeling Fictional) - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I didn't think it was possible for me to become more addicted to this series than I already was but with every single book I fall more in love with these characters and the world that Kit Rocha has created. This is by far my favourite erotic series and I am head over heels for all of the O'Kane men. This is a series that I would definitely recommend reading in order though, each of the characters plays an integral part in the ongoing story and both past and future couples continue to shine in every book.

We've already had a glimpse into what life was like for Six when she lived in Sector Three so we know just how hard it is for her to trust anyone. She has been living with the O'Kanes for several months now and is starting to believe that things really are different in Sector Four, she is still understandably wary but she trusts Bren to have her back. I loved Six for her strength, we find out even more about the things she has been through but she doesn't want sympathy and she refuses to let her past dictate her future. She wants to find a place where she belongs but she has to learn to trust not just Bren but also the rest of the O'Kanes before she can believe that she has a future with them. She isn't the kind of woman to back down from a challenge though and she puts the effort in to build a place for herself within the gang. She knows she can be more useful by helping them organise their new territory than she can serving drinks behind the bar and Bren is all in support of that. What she is coming to realise is that the men in Sector Four are nothing like the men she's dealt with in the past and the women are both respected and treated as equals. At first she was horrified by how open the gang are when it comes to sex, she thought that the women were being forced into doing things they weren't comfortable with just like she had been in the past. She comes to realise that everything that happens is consensual though, nobody is made to do anything they don't want to do and that gives her the courage she needs to start to explore her own needs and desires.

Bren knows what it's like to be a victim of circumstances and he immediately took Six under his wing when she got away from the old Sector Three leader. He has spent a lot of time helping to build her confidence, teaching her to fight dirty so she can protect herself and earning her trust. Although he has wanted her from the moment he saw her Bren knows that he must take things slowly if he doesn't want to frighten her away for good. What I loved about him most is that although he wants nothing more to protect her from harm he understands that she needs to fight her own battles and he encourages her to do that. Bren's support means more to her than anything and I was pleased he was able to put his male ego to one side for her sake. Bren encourages Six to push her boundaries when it comes to sex and pleasure but he never pressures her to do anything that she isn't comfortable with, he helps her realise that there are no limits as long as everyone who is involved wants to be there.

I've liked Bren since the beginning but I didn't realise quite how much I was going to fall for him. It's just so damn hard to pick a favourite guy from this series - they are all equally hot in their own ways but if you love big, dominant, tattooed, leather wearing, alpha men who know what they want and won't stop until they get it then you're just going to adore this series. Kit Rocha has written some of the hottest sex scenes that I've ever read in this series and she has taken things up a gear in Beyond Pain. There was one particular scene containing Dallas, Lex and Rachel with Bren and Six watching from the sidelines that was so hot it nearly killed me but Bren and Six were definitely given plenty of time to shine as a couple too. I can tell you right now that I'm dying to get my hands on Rachel's book, Beyond Jealousy, because I already know it's going to be off the charts. The glimpses we have been given of Rachel, Ace and Cruz have just increased my excitement to stupid levels.

I don't really know what else I can say about Beyond Pain apart from to tell you that it is a must read for fans of the series. If you haven't come across these books yet then you seriously have no idea what you're missing out on. This is erotic romance at it's finest, picture a gritty dystopian world full of violence and gangs, heroes and heroines who you will fall head over heels for and the hottest boundary pushing sex you'll ever come across and you'll still have no idea how good these books are. Just go out and READ THEM and you'll see what I'm talking about!

HASH(0x9cbedc60) out of 5 stars Quieter but Still Intense April 4 2014
By Andrea T - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
"You don't have to fight. Let me do it for you."

After the crazy-sexy Beyond Control, lead by the dynamic Dallas and Lex, it was quite the change of pace to step into Bren and Six's book. They were both likable characters, no doubt about it, but both were so quiet that it's harder to get a feel for their struggles and desires.

Brendan Donnelly is probably the deadliest O'Kane. Growing up in the slums of Eden, then trained by military police to be a deadly weapon, he's a tremendous asset to the O'Kanes. The betrayal and disgrace that led to his exile from Eden still burns, leaving Bren bent on revenge.

But...BUT, Bren has a soft side when it comes to Six. Six was brought in to Sector Four in Beyond Shame. Six was born in a sector where women are nothing more than breeding machines. She ran away, only to be captured and traded to the evil leader of Sector Three. Six has steadily become a part of her new home, but only feels comfortable with the quiet Bren. It's no surprise their friendship also holds a strong attraction, one they do act on. But Six is so slow to trust -rightly so. It's Bren's job to make Six realize she is safe with him.

So obviously we have another wicked hot book in Beyond Pain. The tone is different, more subdued, and giving the personality of these two, it makes sense. We don't get the group participation (Boo!) but in Bren and Six we do have some watchers (Yay!). With the title Beyond Pain, you might expect a lot of BDSM, but it's not like that at all. What I like about this series is that even when it's rough or, I don't know, hardcore (?) it's not really. And no matter how many participants you have, each couple, each participant, is centered, knows what they want and where everyone stands and it's all about being happy and free. Yeah, it's hot and the authors really go for it, but it's feels more realistic, I guess. Realistic, that is, if you live in a place where anything and anyone goes and it's pretty much the more the merrier. I'll just stop talking now.

Also, things are really changing in Sector Four. The O'Kanes are becoming more powerful and are taking on bigger risks. The biggest change is the women. Not only are they sexy and strong, but under Lex's leadership, are taking an active role is the duties. So cool.

Having said all of this about Beyond Pain.... HOLY CRAP, ACE AND CRUZ!!!

Favorite Quotes

A hoarse cry rose in her throat, and she pressed her open mouth to his skin to muffle it. But that only brought the taste of him into her, and she wanted so much more because she'd been so, so wrong. Nothing about Sector Three could dirty him. He'd kick aside the rubble and build something beautiful out of it.

Maybe she couldn't be like Bren and push toward the pain like a lover, but she knew how to weather it.

"I'll show you," he promised, already panting in her ear. "Every day, I'll show you how much."
Shivering, she freed one hand from the cage and twisted it in his hair, hauling his head back so he had to meet her eyes. "You deserve love. Say it."
"I deserve better." He pressed closer with a grind of his hips. "I deserve you."

HASH(0x9cbedd44) out of 5 stars Great book in a wild series Aug. 27 2013
By T London - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I had the first two books to this series on my kindle but hadn't had time to read them. As I started this book for the review, I found I was severely confused and lost in this book. So I made a mad rush to read the first two books so I would understand Six and Bren. The reason I am telling you this, is don't attempt Beyond Pain, till you have read Beyond Shame and Beyond Control. Once you have those read, this one will not only make sense but you will enjoy the whole series.

Six is a girl who is damaged to the point that I had moments I wondered if she would ever be able to feel and love again. The torment she saw in the other sectors would be enough to drive normal people mad, but she is a strong lady. Trying to figure out what she wants in this new sector and being part of O'Kane's clan, she is also struggling with her feelings for Bren. Trust is a key element she is going to need to learn if she is going to find the life she wants. She is offered help yet she has such a wall around her, she looks at all offers as a way for the other person to see her as vulnerable, which makes them threatening instead of helpful.

Bren, also a damaged soul, is a fighter. He is determined to clear the sectors of unwanted abuse and gangs, but he has a tender side for Six. You can see in his actions he wants to heal her, but as he was told earlier in the book, you can't fix those who don't want to be fixed. He wants Six to believe she deserves love and control over her body, he also wants her to know she is loved and respected. Bren finally earns enough trust with Six to explore her desires and wants and to be a source of strength for her. Trust me, this could seriously be considered one of his top three victories in life because she doesn't make it easy.

Six agrees to go back with Bren to the sector that caused a lot of her trauma. She finds some of the people she knew and she helps Bren do the job he was assigned to do. I loved how Bren was so protective of Six in every part of this journey. It was good for Six to go back and face some of the demons she was running from, but there is a lot of action that goes on in this job.

The author was able to give us intense drama, suspense, and a whole lot of hot sex. I am usually not a fan of Dystopia books, but this one had my heart racing the whole time. Sometimes it was from the drama, the action and sometimes it was the sex. The author has written a series that will introduce this type of genre to a whole audience that was afraid to take the risk and will win them over. She has created a world that we can actually visualize in our minds while reading and soon you find that this just all seems normal. That is amazing writing as far as I am concerned. The characters are so developed you find you have invested a part of your heart into each of them and you care about what happens. It makes the wait for the next book in the series harder to deal with, but the thrill from the series makes the waiting worth while. Each book just gets better and better.
