Beyond Grace’s Rainbow is the deeply emotional and poignant story of young single mother Grace Devlin.

When Grace is diagnosed with cancer her best chance of survival is to find a bone marrow transplant from a family member. Only Grace is adopted and her one previous attempt to connect with her birth mother resulted in bitter disappointment.

But with her young son, Jack, to think about, and the return of her ex Liam, Jack’s father, reminding her of feelings she’d thought she’d buried long ago, Grace refuses to give up hope just yet. With the help of her friends she bravely embarks on a journey of discovery.

This search will bring her from her home in vibrant Dublin to the unspoilt beauty of Wexford where she must unravel a web of lies and deceit that has spanned over thirty years.

With a wonderful cast of supporting characters and plenty of charm, this will have you laughing and crying at the turn of a page.

Carmel Harrington is an exciting new Irish voice in women’s fiction – a must read for fans of Cecilia Ahern!

HASH(0xa3ceda74) out of 5 stars A story full of heart and sorrow Jan. 28 2014

I'd had 'Grace' sitting on my Kindle for ages, watching all the raving reviews and awards come rolling in! I knew it was going to be good - and I knew it was going to be sad - so sort of in the way I absolutely can't wait for and simultaneously dread reading John Green books, I waited for the 'optimum time' to start reading. Happy to report that the optimum time to read Beyond Grace's Rainbow is any damn time at all!

We follow the eponymous Grace - a single mother of a toddler due to her ex-boyfriend's alcoholism - in her battle with leukaemia. Grace is flanked with an amazing cast of supporting characters. Grace is the heart of the story, but each of the supporting cast has its own story arc that you can't help but get involved in. And on top of the sob-fest, there's also a rather gripping mystery sub-plot as Grace's friends rush to discover the identity of her biological father in the hopes that he will be a bone marrow donor match and save their friend's life.

It's a story of extremes - but not in the way that you should be put off by fear that the cancer storyline makes it heavy-handed or mawkish. At times the book is genuinely funny! I particularly loved Abby's attempts at speed dating - it's a little Sex & the City (but where the city is Dublin!).

A story full of heart and sorrow.

HASH(0xa3cedf6c) out of 5 stars Read it now! Feb. 27 2014

Carmel Harrington's name, cover and book blurb spoke to me. Then I started to read.
The content of the books that I pick to read, rarely touch me, the way this book did.
It affected me much, that I put it down, not because I didn't want to read but because I knew the way this author writes would affect me.
Comedy, friendship, love and strength also fell from the words and made it a compelling read.
For those who wish to laugh and cry with the characters, this is a book for you.
I long for more from this author and highly recommend Beyond Grace's Rainbow to those who wish to restore their faith in fiction, in love and in life.

Carmel has put together a cast of characters that we all know, they are like that old pair of slippers that you just don't want to let go.It covers all the bases, love, fear, friendship, family, drama, tears, laughter and a true sense of everything being real, There is an adoption theme running through the story too and the way it is handled by Carmel is honest, thoughtful and sensitive. All that besides it is simply a beautiful story of how friends pull together when one is really in need. I cant wait for the next book.
