Some secrets are worth fighting for...

Back on Earth, Ariana is caught in a dangerous crossfire between clandestine rebel organization Clementia and the power-hungry government. Refusing to divulge the location of the secret information entrusted to her by her late father, she desperately tries to bargain for her Mom, Lily, and Cal's rescue. She's fighting a losing battle, and the clock is ticking.

Presented with evidence of her fiancé Cal's apparent betrayal, she loyally defends him despite her concerns. With her emotions in turmoil, matters become even more complicated as she grows closer to her ex-boyfriend Zane.

When the stakes are raised, a succession of shocking revelations rocks her world, setting her on a path that will not only change her destiny but the fate of humanity.

Confronted by a memory so abhorrent comes a truth she would do anything to forget.

But some things just can't be undone.

True Calling is an enthralling young adult science fiction fantasy romance series that has earned rave reviews from readers who enjoyed popular series like The Hunger Games, Divergent, Matched, The Selection, The 100, 1984, and it's even been favorably compared to the movie Elysium. Note from the Author:
This series is written in US English.
There is a strong romance theme in True Calling and if you only enjoy hard science fiction then this is not the book for you. There is a cliff hanger in this book, and it's not a standalone read. Thank you for taking the time to check out my work.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the True Calling by Siobhan Davis. I was expecting your typical dystopian YA book, but Davis created a unique take on the genre that left me with a lot of questions that I was eager to have answered. Thankfully, Davis was nice enough to reach out to me and offer me an advanced copy of the follow up book, Beyond Reach so I could quickly continue with this intriguing story.

Beyond Reach does it again, builds an intriguing story and answers certain questions from the first book, before creating a bunch of additional questions and a hefty cliff hanger at the end that makes you want to jump right in to the next book and continue trying to figure out what is happening.

Ariana continues to be a strong female lead, her determination and love for her family driving her forward through some pretty unthinkable situations. There is a lot more of a love-triangle in this installment, however. It was alluded to before, but now it takes priority through most of this book and Ariana spends a lot of time being confused about her current feelings for Cal and her former feelings for Zane. It’s done in a relatively acceptable way, but sometimes I feel it’s too much of a dominating focal point and the rest of the story gets lost in that for a while. But that usually happens, so it’s not unexpected.

There are a lot of rebellion politics laid out and explained here, as a lot of second books seem to do. This was more of a stepping stone to set up some of the larger situations that will likely unravel in the third book. It’s an interesting premise, definitely a storyline I want to see continue and the characters are strong enough to close out the series. And the ending, that cliff hanger ending is a blunt slap to the face and I can’t wait to see this all come together.

Once I got my hands on Beyond Reach, I was so excited. All the event in the previous book had me on the edge and when I had to stop my adventure briefly due to not having the second book. It killed me with suspense.

I'm going to try and tell you about this book without too many spoilers so that you guys can also buy it and read it as well as the first book in the series.

Going into the second book, you get glimpses of Ariana's head. How emotional she was when dealing with the aftermath of the first book's events. Personlly I was okay with it(mainly because I'm so team Zane all the way :) )

Event after event and plot twist after plot twist, this book kept me full of emotion and I was literally in tears by the end of the book. The big events that happened was completely worth the wait.

The characters undergo some development as they journey more into their heads and dealing with such new changes and people. Trust is an extremely hard thing and Ariana is still caring and determined. Characters over all amazing. The relationships venture deeper in Zane and Ariana's connection and they have to deal with so many hurdles. When something shocking is discovered, All of these characters are thrown in for another round of crazy and for the reader, that means more suspense.

As a reader, I'd have to say my favorite thing about this book is how the author keeps the character human. Ariana is faced with so many problems and within these problems, she hows her vulnerability. She isn't too hard and strong, but when the ones she loves are in danger, she'll do whatever it takes to keep them safe. That's what I like in a heroine. Emotion, vulnerability, determination, caring, strong etc.

One thing that I'd say I wasn't a big fan of was with the setting.

Again I am simply enthralled with this book. There was much more depth to this one. Getting to know the characters on a deeper level makes a book more interesting in my opinion. However one of the only things that bothered me about it was Ariana's constant going on about Cal. I understand it from her being 17 but at the same time, I didn't feel it needed to be through the whole book. Some of the things in the book, I guessed even before the author wrote them, I think I guessed it before the first book ended. Leaving where she did at the end of this book, is driving me insane waiting for the last book to come out. Overall I have been thoroughly enjoying this series and would recommend it to anyone.

Belongs into Young Adult sci-fi but I had fun reading it. Just ignore some of the inconsistencies in science and romance.
Relax and read.
